    Purple Career Readiness Workshop on Sept. 16: Top Ten Tips

    Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, Sept. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. in Clement Hall 212 for this Purple Career Readiness Workshop. Russ Coughenour, the Director of the Center for Career Development, will share his top ten tips and advice on how to make the best impression possible at the approaching career fairs.

    This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.

    To attend virtually, access the TEAMS link in Handshake Events. To receive credit for attending, you must log in with your Tennessee Tech email, participate if asked to during the workshop and be present for at least 80% of the presentation, and make sure that your camera is turned on during your attendance.

    WTTU DJ training starts Tuesday, September 21 in RUC 369 at 11AM. Any student interested in starting a music or talk show is welcome to attend. Once training is complete, they will be eligible to start a show on 88.5 WTTU.

    Center Stage presents lectures, exhibits, reading and performances that promote greater appreciation of fine arts and seeks to connect students with a better understanding of diverse ideas and world cultures.

    Family’s ties to area, belief in farming inspire gift to School of Agriculture

    Joyce Glasscock Reece says her family’s history with the Upper Cumberland area dates back several hundred years. When she and her son, Edward, decided to sell their Cookeville home and use the proceeds to help others, Tech was the first place that came to mind.

    The John Martin Reece Endowed Scholarship is named for Joyce’s father and is awarded to students majoring in agriculture at Tech, and the Nova Glasscock Endowed Scholarship is named for Joyce’s grandmother and is also awarded to agriculture majors.

    The Reeces also established the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology Endowment which is used at the discretion of Dean Darron Smith. The CAHE used a portion of the funds to purchase a side-by-side four-person off-road work vehicle equipped with GPS technology for geomapping and grid soil sampling.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Dr. Mathew Pearson, University of Liverpool

    Dr. Mathew Pearson, a nuclear physicist hailing from the University of Liverpool, is visiting campus this week and will give our first Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar this semester. Dr. Pearson studies the properties of exotic nuclei using a laser to precisely measure atomic transitions that are affected by the configuration of the nucleus. His talk, Laser Spectroscopy in Nuclear Physics, will be this Friday, September 17th at 4pm in Volpe Library 248. It will be geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!     Having difficulty or no luck connecting to the internet to complete assignments either at home or on the road? Then please reach out to the College of Interdisciplinary Studies! Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Mike Gotcher, College Dean, and through a grant he obtained to provide 200 TN Tech students FREE and unlimited WiFi we currently still have 80 devices available just for the asking. Students, and sometimes staff and faculty, frequently struggle to establish much needed WiFi access to complete assignments, attend zoom lectures or meetings, or to be able to download course content. The grant covers the WiFi devices until mid-April so you may borrow the unit now and keep it to complete your Spring semester. Interested parties should contact Ms. Dylcia Cowan at dcowan@tntech.edu. You are also welcomed to drop in at Southwest Hall, Room 141A between 8a – 4:30p. Ms. Cowan can also be reached at 931-372-3366. Wings Up!

    Engineering/STEM Fair is Wednesday, Sept. 22

    Join the Center for Career Development on Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in The Hoop for the Engineering/STEM Fair. ALL Majors and ALL students (freshman to alumni) are invited to discuss career opportunities with over 80 employers!!! These opportunities include co-op, internship, and full-time positions!!

    DO NOT forget to bring plenty of copies of their resume!

    Students should come dressed to impress and have their Eagle Card to obtain a personalized name tag. This event counts toward Career Readiness Certification!

    All participants will be expected to follow Campus Return to Tech Guidelines in regards to social distancing and face coverings.

    Career Fairs are a NO BACKPACK ZONE, so please leave it in your car or room.
