We are collaborating with Dr. Bradley Cohen in the Department of Biological Sciences to offer members a chance to perform Data Science to detect flooded cornfields for landscape-scale conservation of migrating and wintering waterfowl in West Tennessee and the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley. Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Josie McQuail Introduces Students to Rugby, TN
Rural Reimagined wants to recognize Dr. Josie McQuail, faculty in the English department, for the rural service-learning projects and writing assignments that her English 4995 classes have conducted in Rugby, TN. Rugby is both a living village and historical site located about an hour and a half east of Cookeville. Over the past couple of years, Dr. McQuail’s students have completed service-learning projects to help the Rugby community, including an Energy Conservation Plan, a new museum exhibit, and a marketing plan for educating local public school age children, among others. Additionally, students have participated in other initiatives like transcribing diaries and letters in the Rugby archives and written historical fiction pieces based on the area. PTC Student Isaiah Roe Begins Internship with Rural Reimagined
Rural Reimagined (RR) continues its successful partnership with the Professional & Technical Communications (PTC) program and officially welcomes student intern Isaiah Roe for the fall 2021 semester. Roe represents the PTC program and will receive real-world communication experience by writing and editing stories and articles centered around surrounding rural communities. He will additionally use his PTC skillsets to assist local businesses through website editing and more. Regarding his internship, Roe states, “I am most looking forward to learning new real-life skills , such as Canva, Indesign, and SEO, as well as building a resume that sticks out. I am also really excited to make many new allies in my ascent from a student to a leader in the world outside of school.” Wings up!

Alpha Phi Omega invites all students interested in community service and leadership development opportunities to join us on Monday at 5 pm in LSC-1211 for an information meeting. We are engaged and actively planning a variety of community service activities, both on campus and in the local Cookeville community, including blood drives, food drives, disaster relief, outdoor cleanup projects at local state parks, and more.
Alpha Phi Omega was founded in 1925 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. We were founded on the principles of the scouting movement. Today, it is the largest coeducational community service organization in the nation with almost 400 active chapters across the United States and Canada.
