    $1000+ in prizes at the Eagle Works Idea Challenge 2/15!

    Have you ever had an idea for an invention to make your life easier? Do you dream about opening up your own store/food truck/other business? Ever thought of an app that’s innovative and solves a problem that drives you crazy?

    Can you talk about any of those things for 90 seconds?

    Join us in the RUC Multipurpose room on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. for the annual Eagle Works Idea Challenge! Pitch your idea to a panel of judges for a chance at a scholarship!

    Students can compete alone or in teams, and will have 90 seconds to pitch their idea – no PowerPoint, no Q&A. Your idea doesn’t need to be fully thought out, but it should be feasible and solve a problem. Get creative and think big!

    There will be two workshops on Feb. 1 (Business Model Canvas) & Feb. 8 (How to Give Your Pitch) at 5 p.m. in the iMakerpace to help prepare for the challenge as well as a pitch practice on Monday, Feb. 13.

  • New Process for Student Absence Notifications Available

    New Process for Student Absence Notifications Available

    A new, paperless process for requests and delivery of student absence notifications is now available. Students who are unable to attend classes for a period of time due to an emergency or extenuating circumstance, including illness, injury, or hospitalization, bereavement, military, or legal obligation, may request an absence notification from the Student Affairs Office by completing the Student Absence Notification Request form and providing appropriate documentation. If approved, the student’s faculty members/instructors will receive a notification via email with a link to the absence memorandum with documented dates of absence.

    Volunteers Needed Magic STEM Bus Safari Saturday!

    Volunteers are needed for a family outreach event on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM at the Oakley STEM Center.

    Volunteers will assist with hands-on STEM activities, event logistics, set up, and tear down. The event is open to families  & their children ranging from Pre-K to 3rd grade. Please consider taking the time to help & please share this opportunity with others who may be interested.

    On Wednesday, February 1 from 9:00am-11:00am , the counseling center in collaboration with multicultural affairs and student engagement will be holding space for reflection and conversation in Roaden University Center room 246. This space aims to provide a confidential, safe, and trusting environment for reflection or a space to process the events happening in Tennessee and nationally.

    Trauma Recovery Group

    Are you struggling to work through unresolved trauma? Join our trauma recovery group to learn about the different ways trauma can affect us, develop techniques that may help in times of distress, as well as being a positive support for others who also struggle with the same experiences. This is a safe space. The Counseling Center will be hosting this group every Friday, starting on February 10, 2023, from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in RUC 387.  Contact Tessa Benefield at tbenefield@tntech.edu to join. A minimum of three group participants is required for the group to start.

  • Mandatory Training – Title VI

    All Tennessee Tech employees must complete annual Title VI training by April 10, 2023. This training can be accessed in Tech Express by locating the red tab for Title VI training on the Campus Resources Card.

    Completion of this training is a component of employee performance evaluations. In addition, failure to complete the training by April 10, 2023, will result in the termination of access to Tennessee Tech computer resources.

    Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program Recognizes Dr. Erica Bower and Her Team

    Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Erica Bower (Sociology & Political Science), Dr. Rene Grimes (Curriculum &Instruction), Dr. Elizabeth Ramsey (Human Ecology), Dr. Steven Seiler (Sociology & Political Science), and their community collaborators for receiving Level 3 funding ($10,000-$25,000) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Bower’s team proposed their project titled “Uniting, Empowering, and Engaging our Upper Cumberland Community to Reduce Mental Health Issues and Substance Misuse: Community-Based Training in Mental Health First Aid & Adverse Childhood Experiences,” which aims to educate Upper Cumberland community members about “the impact of adverse childhood experiences, identification of mental health issues and substance misuse, and actionable steps” to help struggling individuals by conducting at least 24 necessary training courses before June. We congratulate Dr. Bower’s team and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!
