This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by Dr. Zegnet Muhammed, a member of TTU’s physics department. Dr. Muhammed’s talk First-Principles Study of Doping Effects on Ferroelectricity and on Rashba Spin Splitting will provide a look at how physics uses fundamental principles to handle the modeling of complex macroscopic systems. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

TTAC is hosting a workshop on November 21st from 11am – noon in RUC room 246 to help faculty with completing the invention disclosure form. Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Bo Anthoney Johnson, Indiana University
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by Bo Anthoney Johnson, a graduate student at Indiana University, Bloomington working at Oak Ridge National Lab. Bo studies a process called CEvNS (“sevens”) at the interface of nuclear and particle physics observed for the first time seven years ago. In his talk Exploring the Standard Model with CEvNS, Bo will describe how new precision measurements of this process can teach us about fundamental aspects of the universe. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

The University established the Scholar-Mentor Award to honor TTU’s long history of close relationships between faculty and their students. The award honors a faculty member who displays outstanding mentorship, integrating scholarship, research, and teaching excellence. This week the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will host Dr. Sanjana Curtis, an NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley. In her talk Finding Cosmic Goldmines: Merging Neutron stars and Kilonovae, Dr. Curtis will describe her search for the astrophysical origin stories of the elements that make up our world. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 119, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Katherine Smith, Cookeville High School
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by Katherine Smith, a senior at Cookeville High School. Katherine works with a quantum system created by Nitrogen-Vacancy defects in diamond. In her talk Development and Characterization of a CW Nitrogen-Vacancy Magnetometer, Katherine will describe how she generates and interprets spectra from this system in order to sense magnetic fields. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm.
