Dr. Mostafa Rahnama Receives TN Tech’s 2023-2024 Scholastic Research Award
Dr. Mostafa Rahnama, Assistant Professor in Biology, is the recipient of the ’23-’24 Scholastic Research Award for his publication “Recent Co-evolution of Two Pandemic Plant Diseases in a Multi-hybrid Swarm” in the journal Nature, Ecology, and Evolution. His research reconstructs the evolution and emergence of two fungal diseases that triggered pandemic outbreaks originating in South America in the mid-1980’s and sheds light on the complex genetic and evolutionary dynamics of these pathogens.

Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Dr. Susheel Pangeni, TTU Physics
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by Dr. Susheel Pangeni, a member of TTU’s physics department. Dr. Pangeni studies microscopic biological systems using principles of physics, as he will describe in his talk Solution Kinetic Study of Myosin Molecular Motors. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

The first Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar of the semester will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210. (Snacks will be served starting at 3:30pm.) The speaker will be Dr. Vincente Guiseppe from Oak Ridge National Lab. In his talk A LEGENDary Program: Searching for Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay in Ge-76, Dr. Guiseppe will describe the technological innovations required in the search for a process that, if observed, would change our understanding of the universe. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

Tennessee Tech Physics Majors Participate in PIRE-GEMADARC Summer School
Tennessee Tech physics majors Emma Krebs and Michael Potts participated in the final NSF PIRE-GEMADARC summer school this summer in Rapid City, South Dakota. The summer school instructs students in the use of high-purity germanium detectors in physics experiments to learn about our universe. Since 2018, this program has hosted 10 Tennessee Tech students in locations such as China, Germany, Ontario, and Taiwan, as well as multiple US locations. For more info, contact mkidd@tntech.edu.
