    Nominate a Faculty Member for Scholar-Mentor Award 2024-25

    The University established the Scholar-Mentor Award to honor TTU’s long history of close relationships between faculty and their students. The award honors a faculty member who displays outstanding mentorship, integrating scholarship, research, and teaching excellence. The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2024-25 Scholar Mentor Award is Friday, November 22, 2024. Complete guidelines and the nomination forms are on the Office of Research’s home page at the link below. Please send the forms to Bethany Jones at bjjones@tntech.edu.

    TTAC Invention Disclosure Workshop on November 21st!

    Mark your calendars for November 21st during dead hour (11am-noon), as TTAC will be hosting an invention disclosure workshop in RUC room 246 to help faculty with writing and submitting disclosures for their research! Remember to plan to submit by December 6th to get a $100 bonus!! Light refreshments will be provided, see you there!

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Dr. Sanjana Curtis, UC Berkeley

    This week the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will host Dr. Sanjana Curtis, an NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley. In her talk Finding Cosmic Goldmines: Merging Neutron stars and Kilonovae, Dr. Curtis will describe her search for the astrophysical origin stories of the elements that make up our world. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 119, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Katherine Smith, Cookeville High School

    This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by Katherine Smith, a senior at Cookeville High School. Katherine works with a quantum system created by Nitrogen-Vacancy defects in diamond. In her talk Development and Characterization of a CW Nitrogen-Vacancy Magnetometer, Katherine will describe how she generates and interprets spectra from this system in order to sense magnetic fields. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

    TTAC (Tennessee Technology Advancement Consortium) is hosting an intro session and Q&A for faculty innovators this Thursday (October 3rd) from 11am-noon in the RUC room 246. Come meet the TTAC team, collaborate with peers and get your questions answered, and learn TTAC can help you earn a $100 bonus for filing an invention disclosure by December 6th! Refreshments provided, see you there!

  • Dr. Mostafa Rahnama Receives TN Tech’s 2023-2024 Scholastic Research Award

    Dr. Mostafa Rahnama Receives TN Tech’s 2023-2024 Scholastic Research Award

    Dr. Mostafa Rahnama, Assistant Professor in Biology, is the recipient of the ’23-’24 Scholastic Research Award for his publication “Recent Co-evolution of Two Pandemic Plant Diseases in a Multi-hybrid Swarm” in the journal Nature, Ecology, and Evolution. His research reconstructs the evolution and emergence of two fungal diseases that triggered pandemic outbreaks originating in South America in the mid-1980’s and sheds light on the complex genetic and evolutionary dynamics of these pathogens.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Dr. Susheel Pangeni, TTU Physics

    This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by Dr. Susheel Pangeni, a member of TTU’s physics department. Dr. Pangeni studies microscopic biological systems using principles of physics, as he will describe in his talk Solution Kinetic Study of Myosin Molecular Motors. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

    The Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program offers TN Tech faculty members the opportunity to secure up to $20,000 in research funding for addressing rural challenges.
