Students in Dr. Mari Ramler’s Artificial Intelligence and Technical Communication class (PC 4950, 5950) have been chosen to co-author, with their instructor, a chapter for an edited collection, AI in Technical Communication: Emerging Technologies and Pedagogies. Undergraduate students Sydney Askins, Katie Barnes, and Grace Grubbs and graduate students Nimotallahi Azeez and Amina Begum had their proposal, “Beyond Refusal: ‘Co-Intelligence’ and ‘Coded Gaze’ as AI Literacies,” accepted for inclusion in the upcoming volume that will be published by Routledge.

A very interesting feature of the Apollo program was its collaboration with geoscience, including the training of Apollo astronauts in geology. This synergy continues today, supporting our return to the moon via the Artemis mission. This Friday’s seminar will feature talks from TTU Geosciences graduate student Mary Adepoju and Geoscience/Computer Science major Tony Lamantia. Both Mary and Tony perform geoscience research that directly supports the Artemis Initiative. Titles and abstracts for the talks can be found here. This Friday we will be visited by Professor Alicia Aarnio from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Professor Aarnio’s talk, Radiative transfer modeling of complex young stars’ magnetospheres, will describe why knowing about a star’s magnetic field is important and how the magnetic fields of young stars can be deduced from astronomical observations. The seminar will be at 4pm in Bruner Hall 119 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are encouraged to attend!

Fourteen undergraduate psychology students traveled with Dr. Nicole Henniger and Dr. Matthew J. Zagumny to the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) Annual Convention in Denver February 20-22, 2025. The students presented their studies on topics including existentialism, aging anxiety, early life stress and perfectionism, jealousy, empathy, parental marital satisfaction, envy on social media, vicarious trauma, and caregivers’ use of self-defeating humor.
