The Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar this Friday will be given by TTU physics major Abigail McCall. In Abigail’s talk Simplified Analysis of UCNtau+ Monte Carlo Simulations via an Alternate Geometry, she will describe her work over the summer learning how to run and analyze “Monte Carlo” simulations used to model experiments that employ very low energy “ultracold” neutrons. The seminar will be at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

The NSF NRT-GCR, AI: Traineeship in the Convergence of AI, Energy, and Cybersecurity is accepting M.S. applications for ECE, CSC, and ME students for the Spring 2026 semester.

Fellowships include tuition, fees, and an annual stipend of $34,000, with the possibility of up to 15 months of support, contingent upon successful progress in coursework and program activities and the availability of funds. Please contact jcwilliams@tntech.edu with any questions!

TTU Physics major Cricket Bergner will give the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar this Friday. Cricket spent the summer working with scientists at ORNL and General Atomics who focus on nuclear fusion for energy production. In her talk Sheath-Driven Impurity Modeling for Helicon Wave Operation in DIII-D Using the STRIPE Suite, Cricket will describe her summer experience, what she learned about controlled nuclear fusion, and the research she conducted. The seminar will be at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

Learn practical tools to strengthen your submissions and manage budgets effectively. Open to graduate students, faculty, and anyone involved in proposal development. The Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar returns to its usual Friday this week with a seminar given by Dr. Chattrakun Kanokporn (“Tu”), a biological physicist who has recently joined the faculty at Tennessee Tech from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Tu’s talk, Improved site-specific labeling for smFRET measurements using non-natural incorporation, will describe a technique for studying biomolecular dynamics with very high spatial precision. The seminar will be at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210, with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the “Wings Up 100”.
