The University Police would like to remind everyone that all campus buildings will be secured on Thursday, December 21st at the end of business day until Tuesday, January 2nd when offices re-open from the Holiday break. Individuals needing access to the buildings during this time can contact University Police at 931-372-3234 and officers will be happy to assist.

Important tasks to do prior to 2024-2025 FAFSA release
1. Students and parents are highly encouraged to create their FSA IDs prior to the 2024-2025 FAFSA release. FSA IDs can be created at www.studentaid.gov.
2.The Scholarship Application Deadline is December 15th! Students can complete this (before the FAFSA) by logging into Tech Express and using the ScholarWeb quick link.
Tennessee Tech University’s Student Government Association (SGA) attended the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature (TISL), held at the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville from November 16-20, 2023. Throughout the event, SGA members actively participated, embodying the roles of legislators and engaging in impactful discussions on crucial issues. Braxton Westbrook, Chief of Staff to the SGA President, was reelected as TISL’s Lieutenant Governor. Kelsey Hewitt, the Secretary of the First Year Assembly, received recognition as the Best Lobbying CEO. Another outstanding participant, Mariam Abbas, was honored as the Best Lobbyist in her firm. Claire Myers, SGA’s own Vice President, was awarded the prestigious Carlisle Award. The SGA’s achievements at TISL underscore its commitment to fostering leadership and representing the interests of Tennessee Tech’s student body on a broader stage.

It’s time to submit causes for next year’s “I Heart Tech Students” initiative. Every year “I Heart Tech Students” raises funds for areas on campus that directly benefit students – scholarships, programs, and resources that enrich their college experience. Causes can be submitted for university colleges, departments, and programs.
The 2024 “I Heart Tech Students” initiative will run from February 14 through March 27, 2024.

Following the results of our recent campus-wide survey, we are moving to the next phase in developing Tech’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) for 2026-2031. We invite members of the Tech community to participate in this important process by submitting mini-proposals for the new QEP topic.

A group of physics faculty and students recently attended the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society (SESAPS) meeting in Richmond, Kentucky.
Dr. Mary Kidd (chair-elect of SESAPS) was one of the local organizers for the conference and chaired the Panel on Workforce Development. She also supervised Luke Parsons (physics) who presented a contributed talk and Joel Watson, Michael Potts and Emma Krebs (physics) and Ethan White (engineering) who presented posters.
Dr. Paula Engelhardt gave a contributed presentation titled, “Making the Leap to Online Labs” highlighting research completed during her Innovation in Teaching and Learning Faculty Academy for Course and Program Development grant.
Dr. Mustafa Rajabali supervised Cricket Bergner and Zeke Vespie (physics) who presented posters and Dakota Moye (electrical engineering) who presented a contributed talk.
Mateo Cacheiro (physics) was a Society of Physics Students reporter for the conference and presented a poster.
