On Saturday, Oct. 14 the annual Golden Helix 5k will be held at Tennessee Technological University! This year the race will be starting at 9 a.m.at Stonecipher Lecture Hall. We invite all Tennessee Tech students and faculty to enter and run the race this year. You can register for the race via the website, https://www.goldenhelix5k.com/. All Tennessee Tech students can get $10 off the race registration by using the code “Awesome” at checkout. If you are a Tennessee Tech student, please bring your Tech ID to packet pickup. The guaranteed t-shirt deadline is 9 p.m. on Friday Sept. 29.

The race is organized by the Student Affiliates of the American Society of Biochemistry and Microbiology (ASBMB) with the assistance of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) and the Chem-Med Club. Proceeds from the race benefit the ASBMB and SMACS clubs, as well as the Cookeville Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinic, and the Tennessee Technological University Foundation Chemistry Scholarships. On Sat., Sept. 30 from 5-7pm at 42 W. Broad St., the Bryan Symphony Orchestra at Tennessee Tech will host a Symphony Social event – prior to the concert on Sun., Oct. 1. The event, $20 per person, features a selection of tasty nosh, wines, and beer.

The social and the concert not only celebrate Hispanic heritage and musical influences, but also support Tech’s community outreach resource, ESTAR Sanos – Be Healthy.

The ESTAR Sanos program is a health-education initiative of the Whitson-Hester School of Nursing. Since 2020, ESTAR has provided access, vaccination services, and valuable information to rural and Hispanic families/communities in our region. Visit https://www.tntech.edu/nursing/estar/.

Twenty percent of the Social’s proceeds, plus 100% of donations made after the concert during the free reception, go to the ESTAR Sanos program to serve under served populations.
