Workshops allow you to develop or improve your skill in blacksmithing, clay, fibers, metals or wood regardless of experience level. It’s the perfect vacation! Whether you stay on campus or not you can enjoy the beauty of our campus on Center Hill Lake while expanding your creative horizons. Tennessee Tech faculty, staff and students receive a 50% discount on the workshop fee. Everyone who registers before April 1, qualifies for a 20% early bird discount on the workshop fee. Celebration of Craft – Not an Auction Sale
Even though the Celebration of Craft “Not an Auction Sale” is online, original works of art are still available for bargain prices! This year, the Craft Center’s Celebration of Craft silent auction will be an online sale. We have functional, decorative, sculptural and wearable works available in our online “not an auction” sale at price points for everyone. Generous artists from this region have donated work to help the Craft Center raise funds to purchase materials for educational outreach programs for students and teachers from across Tennessee.

TTU Trombone Choir presents Distance Video Project
The TTU Trombone Choir is proud to present our spring distance video project with Center Stage Guest Steve Wiest. Wiest is a world renowned jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, and author. He collaborated with us to produce three videos. The first is “Funk This!” by Dr. Joshua Hauser and features members of the Trombone Choir and Dr. Colin Hill, drums. The second is “Flat Black,” by JJ Johnson, arranged by Wiest. The final composition is a new piece by Wiest that was commissioned for Trombones at Tech titled “Intergalactic Haus of Trombone.” Although the original intent was to have performed all of these live during Steve’s residency by our students, we felt that it was important to recognize the many professional musicians throughout the US who have been largely underemployed due to COVID and invited 6 professional trombonists from Nashville, Knoxville, Boston, and NYC to join us for this final selection. We hope that you enjoy these and we look forward to performing for you again live and in person soon!

Celebration of Craft – Craft Center Gallery Sale
Though Celebration of Craft demonstrations and kids’ craft activities will be virtual this year, the Craft Center Gallery 25% sale will be in person, Saturday, April 10, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Be sure to join us for this opportunity to acquire first quality artists’ work at discounted prices! The Gallery represents Craft Center affiliated artists including faculty, students, artists-in-residence, workshop artists and more!
Available are functional and sculptural works in clay, wearable and functional textiles, jewelry, functional and decorative blown and cast glass, wood furniture and kitchen tools, paintings, prints, photographs and more! All items in the Craft Center’s online Gallery are discounted as well.

Water Week: Creative Writing Contest!
The Office of Sustainability is hosting our first ever Creative Writing Contest for this year’s Water Week (March 22-26)! We are open to all forms of creative writing, such as short stories, plays, poems, comics, etc. The only criteria is that your work must be centered around the theme of WATER and be no longer than 1,000 words! Submissions are due on March 26th. The winner will receive a sustainability gift bag and be featured on our website and social media! Please email submissions to TTUGreen@tntech.edu.

Appalachian Center for Craft – Virtual Workshop Enrollment Continues
The Craft Center is now offering virtual workshops! Learn a new skill from the comfort and safety of your own home. We will mail all the materials and tools that you need directly to you. Class options include making a decorative mask in ceramics, creating a ceramic coffee mug, dyeing with Shibori, creating a decorative copper bookmark, and miniature case bound books. All you need is a space to work and a Zoom account. Zoom sessions will include artist demonstrations and directions with amply opportunity to practice and Zoom again to gain new information and ask questions. Celebration of Craft – Free Kids’ Craft Kits Available Now
Celebration Kids’ Crafts activities are designed to complete at home this year! Pick up free kits to complete five hands-on kids craft activities at the Craft Center Gallery right now, at the Putnam County Library in the Children’s Department beginning March 31, and in our booth in Dogwood Park April 6 and 7, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Kits contain tools and materials to create an origami book, a suncatcher, an air-dry clay turtle, a sun print (cyanotype) on paper, and a mosaic flower pot to fill with included soil and seeds. Just add sunshine for the sun prints, running water for cleanup, something to protect your work surface, and a towel to dry your hands! NEW Virtual Workshops at the Appalachian Center for Craft
The Appalachian Center for Craft is now offering hands-on workshops through ZOOM! Participants will meet with instructors during live Zoom sessions. Sessions will include demonstrations, tips, techniques and advice on specific topics and projects. Students will have time to practice techniques or complete projects on their own and will reconvene through Zoom to ask questions, get advice, troubleshoot or to share completed work. Each virtual workshop will vary in length – some will take place over the course of a day, an evening, several evenings or weekends. Be sure to look for details listed with each workshop.
