The Fantasticks! Backdoor Playhouse – News and Auditions (tntech.edu)

Auditions will take place at the Backdoor Playhouse.

Acting and Singing auditions on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Callbacks on Saturday, September 11, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (as needed)
Principle roles (both men and women) available for 8 performers (18-50). *
You do not need to be a TTU student to audition or to be cast. Minority actors are strongly encouraged. Interested performers should prepare 16 bars of any song for their singing audition, acting auditions will consist of cold-reading and improvisation.

Sunday evening September 5, at 7:00pm, the Bryan Symphony Orchestra at Tennessee Tech will perform a free concert at the Dogwood Park Pavilion in Cookeville. In addition to traditional light classics and patriotic fare the orchestra will perform a tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen and a medley by Journey!  Join us for great music performed by Tech students, faculty, alums, and area professionals in the beautiful outdoors. The Bryan Symphony Orchestra appreciates you efforts to keep other concert-goers safe by wearing a mask while seated near other patrons.

The Bryan Symphony Orchestra is a collaborative effort between the School of Music at Tennessee Tech and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra Association which raises over $200,000 annually in support of concerts given by the orchestra consisting of Tech faculty, students, and other area professionals. Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting

Kristin Ferraro will present her BFA senior thesis exhibition, “Of the Rockies”, in the Front Gallery of the Bryan Fine Arts Building at Tennessee Tech University. The exhibition will be on view from April 26 through May 10, 2021. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“Of the Rockies”, conveys through the use of purposefully chosen colors and by building up the paint to show either hard or rocky, or soft rolling mountain scenes. This showcases the variety of the mountains themselves, the emotions evoked when viewing the beauty of the mountain ranges, and their diversity.

Pardon Me Daylily:  Britnee Holley Senior Thesis Exhibition

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers

Britnee Holley will present her BFA senior thesis exhibition, “Pardon Me Daylily”, in the Front Gallery at the Appalachian Center for Craft. The exhibition will be on view from April 21 through May 4, 2021. The gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am – 5pm and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.

“Pardon Me Daylily” is an installation of fiber art that includes woven materials, hand embroidery, and dyed silk. Each piece in the exhibition represents one of the three major stages of life of a daylily: a green bud, full bloom, and the dying flower. The embroidery shows a microscopic visual of the floral life cycle and the installation of woven work is a macroscopic experience of being surrounded by the flower.

The Appalachian Center for Craft (ACC) is pleased to receive submission proposals from artists/craftspeople and curators for exhibitions for 2022 and 2023.

The ACC is interested in cultivating and showcasing work that strengthens the role of craft in contemporary culture. ACC Galleries exhibit traditional and contemporary fine craft by emerging, mid-career, and established craft artists. We are seeking work that highlights mastery in craftsmanship, celebrates craft and/or pushes the boundaries of craft. Exhibitions can be individual or group shows.

The selection committee will be looking for bodies of work/installations that are cohesive, well-considered, informative, and which promote craft and contemporary craft practices. Exhibitions are two months in duration and a $200 honorarium per exhibition is offered to help support shipping/delivery of artwork. Artwork is insured while on the premises.

Most of Celebration of Craft is virtual this year, but the annual 25% discount in the Craft Center Gallery is available both in-person and online! All handmade items (with the exception of exhibitions) will be available for the 25% discount Saturday, April 10, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in person. The online 25% discount is available Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11.

All demonstrations will be livestreamed through Facebook @tntechcraftcenter. Glass blowing begins at 10 a.m.; blacksmithing, 11 a.m.; clay, 12 p.m.; fibers, 1 p.m. and wood, 2 p.m. Watch from the comfort of your home or anywhere on your phone, i-pad, computer or big screen!

Kids’ Craft activities are available in a kit to take home. Pick up the kits now in our Gallery, at the Putnam County Library, and April 7, 4-6 p.m. in Dogwood Park.
