Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers

Margaret Jane Joffrion’s sculptural weavings arch their spines and bristle like standoffish cats. Joffrion will be presenting her Fibers thesis show Animal Hospital in the Joe L. Evins Gallery at The Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN from April 27 – May 10, 2022. A reception will be held on April 30, 2022, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. The gallery will be open Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

In Animal Hospital, Joffrion examines impulses of self-protection and experiences of safety. She weaves cloth using cotton, silk, wool, elastic, crepe, and metallic yarns. Please attend Animal Hospital to experience the defensive attitudes, textural allure, and sculptural embodiment of these works.

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers

“The Sky is Clear”, a BFA Senior Thesis Exhibition by Nobue Shinn, will be on view at the Appalachian Center for Craft Lakeview Gallery from April 27 to May 9, 2022. Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, 12 p.m., – 5 p.m. This exhibition showcases a series of quilts that follow the Hero’s Journey in a story written by Nobue.

COMFORT ZONE:  Mary Klages Senior Thesis Exhibition

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Clay

Mary Klages is a ceramic artist from Oak Ridge who has been working in the medium of clay for six years. Mary’s senior thesis show, “Comfort Zone”, will be at the Hilltop Gallery at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN, April 27-May 10, 2022. This exhibition showcases Mary’s sculptural work, which she has created during her time in the BFA program at Tennessee Tech. This show consists of larger-than-life figures which explore the complexities of consciousness. This body of work combines both realistic and abstract forms while pushing the limit of clay as a medium. Mary finishes the pieces by layering paint to define the forms and push the narrative throughout the show. Mary aims to ignite curiosity in the viewer and invites them to investigate each piece closely.

TRANSFORMATION:  Stacey Ashworth Senior Thesis Exhibition

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Glass

Glass artist Stacey Ashworth will be presenting the opening of her senior thesis exhibition for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Glass. School of Art, Craft & Design, Tennessee Technological University.  Join us in a spiritual realm of the cosmos for “TRANSFORMATION”.  The show will be presented in the Joe L. Evins Gallery at the Appalachian Center for Craft, located at 1560 Craft Center Drive, Smithville, TN 37166.  This is a free exhibition and will demonstrate the extensive efforts, and skills she has gained while attending the glass program at Tennessee Technological University.  Focusing on hot shop glass blowing and the use of glass enamels.  The exhibition will be presented to the public during the weeks of April 27, – May 10, 2022.

“To shred or be shredded? That is the question.”  When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there’s more to this art form than playing pretend; it’s about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. Will Nina be able to let go and set herself free onstage? Following her mission to shred or be shredded, Airness is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to rock is already inside us. A comedy about competition, completion, and finding the airness inside yourself.

The works in this show have been hidden from the public, like a bird enclosed in an egg. In this season of new beginnings, the artists will reveal their work, and the public is invited to witness the formerly secret made fully visible.  Students of Tennessee Tech’s School of Art, Craft & Design will be presenting Make. Do., an exhibition at the Silver Fern in Cookeville, TN. A reception will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., and the show will run April 1–30, 2022. The gallery will be open Thursday and Friday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. The gallery is open by appointment only on Tuesday and Wednesday. The artists practice in diverse disciplines such as blacksmithing, metalsmithing, ceramics, painting, fibers, graphic design, and photography. Please attend Make. The Iris Review, Tech’s literary magazine, is now accepting submissions until Feb. 28th! We welcome new or previously published authors, and submissions include prose, poetry, and art!
