The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be making a periodic table of cupcakes to sell for National Chemistry Week. The fundraiser will be at the LSC covered portico outside of Einstein’s on Thursday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will also have other baked good for sale. We accept cash, card, and Venmo. All proceeds go toward travel expenses attending the ACS national meeting to present research. Come out and buy a cupcake of your favorite element and help us celebrate NCW! Friday Focus: IDEA Evaluations
Friday Focus sessions are designed to provide just-in-time resources and information for faculty throughout the semester. Each session focuses on a different resource, tool, or program available to faculty. During this session, Dr. Kevin Harris, the Associate Director of the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Effectiveness (IARE) will provide an overview of the University course evaluation process, called IDEA. He will discuss how to select appropriate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) prior to student completion of the IDEA evaluations and provide tips on how to garner a good response rate. Join us on Friday, October 22nd at 12 PM.

• October leave reports are due by Tuesday, November 2nd (Approvals due Friday, November 5th)
• The deadline for receipt of any payroll changes normally due by the 15th is 4:30 P.M. on Thursday, November 11th
• November monthly payroll is on Tuesday, November 30thDecember Deadlines
• Approval of Student/Temp payroll in TimeClock Plus is due by 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 1st
• December Student and Temp payroll is on Friday, December 10th

Gold Career Readiness Workshop on Oct. 19: Writing my First Resume
Join the Center for Career Development on Tuesday, Oct. 19, beginning at 11 a.m. in Clement Hall 212 for the first Gold Career Readiness Workshop of the semester! A staff member from the Center for Career Development will be describing the characteristics of a strong, foundational resume.
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Gold Career Readiness Certificate for freshman and sophomore students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.

Community and Student Spotlight: Putnam Proud Clean-Up Event
Rural Reimagined recognizes the Tennessee Tech Office of Sustainability for their annual Putnam Proud Clean-up Event. A total of 70 Tech students participated in the clean-up that took place in several different areas of the county including roadsides, bike trails, and parts of campus. Student groups that participated include African Student Union, Student Members of American Chemical Society, Student Government Association, and the Office of Sustainability. A few other student groups plan to participate in a clean-up soon as well. The Office of Sustainability gave out supplies to all groups, and the Clean Commission gave out t-shirts to all who participated. Lydia Young, a student worker in the Office of Sustainability, stated “We look forward to this event every year and love getting to show our appreciation towards Putnam County!” It was a very successful week of cleaning up Putnam County. Wings up!

Green Chemistry Lecture- Tuesday, Oct 19 at 6 p.m.
You are invited to a presentation on Green Chemistry given by Chance Morris, chemistry major and Green Chemistry chair for the Student Members of the American Chemical Society. The presentation will be Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in LSC 1211. Chance will discuss the twelve principles of Green Chemistry and how it relates to more sustainable practices. National Chemistry Week- Mole Day Race Oct. 18
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society invite you to kick off National Chemistry Week (Oct 17-23) with our Mole Day Race on Monday, Oct. 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the Tucker Stadium track. A mole is an important unit in chemistry that helps count large number of particles (6.022×10^23 to be exact!). Help us celebrate by running or walking a mole of zeptometers (602 meters).
