    Bacchanal 2021 – Annual Scholarship ONLINE this year

    The School of Art, Craft & Design invites you to Bacchanal 2021, an online auction of art and fine craft. The Bacchanal auction will take place ONLINE only. All auction items are gorgeous handcrafted works donated by generous local, regional and national artists including our own faculty, artists-in-residence and students. Proceeds from this annual event support competitive scholarships for students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program.

    This year’s auction will be hosted by Amonett Eagle Auction and Realty at https://www.eagleauctions.com/21-098-ttu-art-auction. Bidding closes October 25, at 11 a.m. Click the “Bidder Registration andBidding” link to view all the items. Once you register, you can bid. If you would like to view details of each item or increase your bid, click on the item to view a larger image, description, dimensions and information on the artist.

    Hospitals are in desperate need of blood to help treat trauma patients and other patients. Please come out this Monday between 10AM and 4PM on main quad in front of Oakley Hall/Bell Hall to donate blood through Blood Assurance! Be sure to eat a good meal beforehand!

    Tech’s Commission on the Status of Women invites you to submit your nominations by Monday, November 22 for the following two awards:

    The Alison Piepmeier Outstanding Student Award

    This award celebrates Piepmeier’s legacy of fierce feminism by recognizing an exceptional Tennessee Tech student whose research, activism and/or outreach advances gender equity. It acknowledges a student who shows a passion for learning, goes the extra mile to assist others, and contributes significantly to campus and/or the local community. Nominate here.

    The CSW Excellence Award

    This award is presented annually to an individual employed by Tennessee Tech University who has contributed significantly to gender equity. The award honors three qualities that characterize the tradition of women’s leadership at Tech: perseverance, generosity, and mentorship. The award celebrates the efforts of Tennessee Tech employees to provide ongoing leadership and mentoring for the campus community and work towards gender equity for all. Nominate here.

    Free Chemistry Activity Bags Giveaway- Saturday, Oct 23

    In honor of National Chemistry Week, the Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be giving away free chemistry activity bags at the Putnam County library (50 E Broad St) from 12 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23. The bags include a copy of the Celebrating Chemistry magazine, as well as goggles and supplies for several of the activities included in the magazine. The theme of NCW is “Fast or Slow: Chemistry Makes it Go” and helps teach people of all ages about reaction rates and factors that impact how fast chemical reactions happen. This event is open to the general community and is accessible to all ages and education levels, so please come get a bag and share this information with anyone that may be interested. The bags are first come first served and will be given out while supplies last. We hope to see you there! Questions can be sent to smacsttu@gmail.com.

    Carin’ About The Strays (CATS) is a 501(c)3 organization based out of Cookeville, Tennessee that specializes in the rescue and support of felines in Putnam County, Tennessee. The focus of CATS is to help care for abandoned or mistreated animals through foster programs, spay and neuter interventions, and socialization of orphaned kittens in order to facilitate successful adoptions. Most kittens taken in by CATS are abandoned, orphaned, and/or severely mistreated.

     

  • Pre-proposals for NSF MRI funding due Nov. 12 to Office of Research

    The National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation funding is a limited submission program that increases access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training. An MRI award supports the acquisition or development of a multi-user research instrument that is, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs.

    Tennessee Tech may submit or be included as a significantly funded subawardee in no more than three MRI proposals. Therefore, a pre‐proposal is required to be submitted by all interested faculty and an internal review conducted to determine which proposals will be submitted to NSF.
