  • UPDATE to PeopleAdmin Login Process

    PeopleAdmin has been recently updated to use single sign-on authentication in line with the University’s mission to make access to external software programs easier for the campus community. What does this mean? Well, if you access PeopleAdmin directly through the IDme Express portal, no extra login will be required. You will bypass the normal PeopleAdmin login screen and be taken into PeopleAdmin immediately. If instead you decide to visit the PeopleAdmin website directly, there will be a link at the top labeled “Employees click here to login” that will allow you to use your TTU domain username and password to login. Your PeopleAdmin username and password will now match your TTU domain username and password, so no extra passwords to remember. If you visit PeopleAdmin, you will see these changes have already taken effect. We hope this will make your PeopleAdmin experience better. If you have any questions or issues, please let us know.

    Road Closures – University and Peachtree

    In an effort to allow students to maintain social distancing while walking in the center of campus, portions of Peachtree Ave and University Dr will be closed to thru traffic (authorized vehicles only).  Stop signs and barriers will be placed in locations that will allow block thru traffic, but maintain access to the Henderson Hall parking lot.

    Center Spotlight: STEM Center Awarded $49,875 SERS Grant for ARISE Program

    Congratulations to Rural Reimagined’s partner the Oakley STEM Center and PI Dr. Darek Potter (STEM Center Director), Co-PI Dr. Julie Baker (College of Education Associate Dean), and Co-PI Mr. Harry Ingle (College of Engineering Student Success Center Director) for being awarded a $49,875 grant to develop the Ambassadors for Rural Innovation & STEM Education (ARISE) program. The program will recruit 20 first-year student ambassadors from economically disadvantaged rural communities who are pursuing STEM and STEM-related majors. Student ambassadors will develop skills in teamwork, communication, networking, teaching pedagogy, and community service. They will also gain experiential learning by assisting teachers in delivering STEM-related lessons and will be mentored by regional industry partners to gain an understanding of local opportunities after graduation.   • MS Cooper / Pinkerton Parking

    Students will begin moving into the resident halls on August 16.  Beginning on this date, you must have a green parking permit to park in the residential zones.

  • Electric Power Outage Thursday, August 11

    Planned maintenance by Cookeville Electric Department will require a utility power loss beginning 4:00 am CDT Thursday, August 11.  This outage is anticipated to last 15 minutes or less.  The main campus has standby generators and should not experience a power loss.  Buildings which will be affected include: Tech Village, Athletic Performance Center, Marc Burnett Student Recreation, Foundation Hall, Varsity Building.

    Departments may choose to turn off sensitive equipment prior to this power outage.

    The Degree Works degree audit system is now available for graduate students.  Degree Works has been available at the undergraduate level for several years and fulfills graduate student Financial Aid compliance requirements issued by the Federal Government (CPOS).

  • TTU Native Plant Garden needs your help!

    The TTU Native Plant Garden is in need of a weed-intervention! Due to the COVID-19 transition to online last spring, we didn’t have any students or volunteers to help with weeding and working in the garden. The garden really needs help and we want to make it look as nice as possible before students return. Now that the summer heat is beginning to wane, it’s not as bad to work in the garden. If you are available to volunteer, we would be extremely appreciative. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed for all volunteers to ensure everyone’s safety.

    There are two ways to become involved:

      1. If you are TTU faculty or staff: from within MS Outlook, look for “groups” and search for TTU Native Plant Garden and join the group mailing list. You can unsubscribe at any time, but I will send emails through this group for volunteer days and update the calendar.

      2. If you are a student or know a community member that wants to help: you can email me at skrosnick@tntech.edu and I will add you to this list.

    Call for Volunteers from Tennessee Tech Electric Vehicle Demonstration Project

    Tennessee Tech is currently conducting a Department of Energy-supported electric vehicle demonstration project to promote EV awareness and readiness in the Upper Cumberland region in Tennessee. Volunteers from Tennessee Tech and the Upper Cumberland region, are needed to participate in the project. Qualified volunteers will be retaining a market EV product for their daily applications for up to two weeks at no cost other than charging cost. The participating volunteers will have the opportunities to learn more information about EV such as the upfront purchase cost, the operational cost, EV performance and operation, and others.     We are still in great need of help with PPE Distribution this month!!!

    Masks, along with personal bottles of hand sanitizer, will be distributed on:
    • Thursday, Aug. 20 (8am – 4:30pm)
    • Friday, Aug. 21 (8am – 4:30pm)
    • Monday, Aug. 24(8am – 4:30pm) First Day of Classes

    The following distribution centers will be located across campus to provide easy access to students:

      • Roaden University Center, 2nd Floor MPR (Last names beginning with A-E)

     

      • Hooper Eblen Center (Last names beginning with F-J)

     

      • Bryan Fine Arts Building (Last names beginning with K-O)

     

      • Volpe Library (Last names beginning with P-T)

     

      Memorial Gym (Last names beginning with U-Z)

    Queues at the distribution sites should incorporate proper social distancing (6 feet apart).
    Distributors will be expected to wear masks and gloves during their shift(s).

    Grant Spotlight: Holistic Foundry Undergraduate Engaged Learners (FUEL) Program

    Rural Reimagined (RR) congratulates PIs and Co-Directors Dr. Andrea Arce-Trigatti, Dr. Stephanie N. Jorgensen, Mr. Michael Aikens, Dr. J. Robby Sanders, Dr. Pedro E. Arce for receiving the Holistic Foundry Undergraduate Engaged Learners (FUEL) program grant. The FUEL program uses the Renaissance Foundry, an innovation-driven pedagogical engine, coupled with RR to allow students to transform learning with skills of holistic engineers. Program objectives align with RR, with the expectation that research projects will have ties to participants’ hometowns via outreach activities in partnership with Mr. Carlos Galindo and the Science Olympiad Collegiate Scholars program. Regarding the FUEL program, Dr. Arce-Trigatti states, “We are very excited about the implementation of the program and the anticipated positive impacts that it will have on student engagement, retention, and success.” Wings up!
