LGBTQIA+ Support Group- Tonight!
Many LGBTQ+ individuals experience negative mental health issues due to the prejudice and other biases they face- even the act of coming out is surrounded by fear for many. In fact, research suggests that queer people experience mental health conditions at a rate almost 3 times higher than the general population.
Without mental health we cannot be healthy. It is our hope that LGBTQ+ individuals find this support group to be a safe outlet for them to discuss these challenges and find a sense of community online. We want LGBTQ+ students at Tech to not just make it through their time here, but to flourish- you are worthy of a full and free life.
This group is open to anyone who identifies anywhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, including those who don’t know what that means for them! Participants are welcome to come and be accepted as themselves.
This group meets every Thursday evening from 6:15-7:15 on zoom. Participants may choose to be public or anonymous in the zoom meeting. Please email sw-zsspoerl@tntech.edu for the zoom link.

Whitney O’Halek Talk Oct 06
Please join the Professional and Technical Communication Club and the English Club via Zoom on Tuesday, October 6th, at 11:00 a.m., as English/PTC alum Whitney O’Halek shares her self-publishing experience with us. Whitney will begin her presentation with details about publishing her novella series, as well as her travel blog, which was part of the inspiration for the series. Following the presentation, Whitney will be available to answer questions you might have about her self-publishing and entrepreneurship experiences. Join ASME & Amy Elliott
This Thursday, October 1 during dead hour in Brown 236 and 237, ASME will be hosting Amy Elliot as a guest speaker. Starring in 50+ episodes of the Science Channel’s “Outrageous Acts of Science” and runner up on The Discovery Channel’s “The Big Brain Theory,” Dr. Amy Elliott is a scientist on-camera and off. By day, Dr. Elliott is a research staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory specializing in inkjet and photopolymer-based additive manufacturing technology. Her path to a science started with a passion for engineering in the TTU ME program followed by a revelation about what research was in her second year of grad school. Learn the “10 Reasons to 3D Print Something” as well as Dr. Elliott’s journey to a career in science with lots of fun pit stops (literally and figuratively) along the way.

Digital Exhibits on the Leona Lusk Officer Black Cultural Center
The Leona Lusk Officer Black Cultural Center is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! The Tennessee Tech Archives is partnering with Multicultural Affairs to curate a series of three digital exhibits on the Center’s history and the history of Black students, faculty, and staff at Tennessee Tech.
The first exhibit covers events held by the Center from 1990 to 2019. The exhibit features over 55 photographs, flyers, programs, invitations, clippings, and other documents that show the range of the Center’s activities.

research@tntech.edu | 372-3464Effective October 5, 2020, the National Science Foundation (NSF) will enhance the Project Reporting System in Research.gov to implement the revised Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR). The RPPR is a uniform format for reporting performance progress on Federally funded research projects and research-related activities. NSF awardees use the RPPR to prepare and submit annual and final project reports to NSF. Further details about the RPPR can be found on the Research.gov About Project Reports website.
