Disco Swing- Friday 2/24
Join us on Friday, February 24th at 7:00pm for Swing Dance Club’s Disco Swing! We will be meeting in the Dance Studio of the Memorial Gym for an evening of swing and disco music and dancing. We will be giving away free sweatshirts and serving refreshments so swing on by!
Disco/ 80’s themed outfits are encouraged but not required.

Eagle Works Prototyping/MVP
This Wednesday, take the next step in getting ready for Eagle Works by hearing all about prototyping and minimum viable products. Part of the Eagle Works competition is a tradeshow, and having something created that shows off your idea makes you stand out! Hear from a Maker Member about all the different things available in the iMakerspace and how to get access, then one of the directors in the iCube will talk about app development. Finally, we’ll go over some of the options in Canva to create professional looking mockups for your presentation.
Workshop starts at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
The iMakerspace is on the third floor of Volpe Library. Use the north staircase (past the MyTECH helpdesk) to access. If you need an accessible entrance, please email Andrea at akruszka@tntech.edu before 4:30 p.m. that day to arrange.

Flower & Gift Fund 2023
All University Faculty, Administrative Staff, and Clerical & Support Staff as defined by the personnel policies of the University, are members of the University Faculty and Staff Flower and Gift Fund, having accepted group participation in the fund. Each member of Faculty and Staff has the opportunity to contribute to the fund. The $10 contribution is deducted annually from the October payroll check. You may use this link to make your selection to begin or end your contribution.

Reminder: Nominations for the 2023 Derryberry Award due March 1
The 2023 Derryberry Award nomination deadline is Wednesday, March 1. This award was established in honor of the late Everett Derryberry after 34 years as president of Tennessee Tech. This prestigious honor grants a plaque and cash award to a graduating senior who demonstrates a high level of scholastic achievement and successful campus involvement in leadership and enrichment opportunities. Individuals who graduated in December 2022 or are scheduled to graduate in May or August 2023 are eligible for nomination. Eboné Bell: How to be a Good Ally
Join us on February 22, 2023 at 7:30 in Derryberry Hall Auditorium as we hear from Eboné Bell, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Tagg Magazine. Through her presentation, How to be a Good Ally, Eboné will dive deeper into ways you can show up as an ally, not only during social justice movements but also in everyday life. Participants will take a hard look at how they currently show up in these spaces and how they can do better (with the right tools). Eboné will share ineffective vs. effective ways of ally activism. Participants will also look at breaking through uncomfortability and standing in their purpose.

Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program Recognizes Dr. Brenda Wilson’s Team
Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Brenda Wilson (Communication Department Chair and Journalism Professor) and Ms. Bailey Phonsnasinh (Director of Brand Communications) for receiving Level 1 funding (up to $2,500) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Wilson’s team proposed their project titled “Partnering with Local Agencies to Promote Rural Community Service,” which is a collaboration between JOUR 4460 (Public Relations Cases and Practices) and Upper Cumberland regional service agencies that tasks students with developing a promotional campaign to increase awareness and use of the services offered. Students will review related client research, determine objectives and communication strategies that best target their specific audiences, create multimedia messages, and disseminate information to the most likely benefitted publics. We congratulate Dr. Wilson and Ms. Phonsnasinh and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!

Student Chapter of ACS to Co-Host Meeting and Speaker in LSC
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Student Chapter at Tennessee Tech will co-host a meeting with the Nashville Local Section of ACS on Thursday, February 23, in Laboratory Science Commons 1211. Dr. Pamela Leggett-Robinson, CEO and Executive Director for PLR Consulting in Atlanta, GA, will present, “Investing in the Chemical Enterprise: Broadening Participation through the Lens of Intellectual, Social, and Environmental STEM Activism.”
A reception with refreshments will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation will begin at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Leggett-Robinson recently won the 2022 Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences at the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society.

College of Business faculty member remembers Middle Tennessee businessman
Ryan Nation, Lecturer of Business Management and Tech alum, recently published an article about late Tennessee businessman and wrestling promoter, Jerry Jarrett.
Nation’s article chronicled his relationship with Jerry Jarrett who promoted wrestling events in the Upper Cumberland area during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
Under the banner Jarrett Promotions, he promoted wrestling events sponsored by the Tennessee Tech chapter of Phi Gamma Delta as shown in the advertisement from the April 18, 1986 edition of The Oracle.
