  • Data Science League Hackathon this Weekend!

    The Data Science League is planning a hackathon for this weekend (3/25 – 3/27) to detect flooded cornfields from satellite imagery. No prior knowledge of machine learning, AI, or flood detection is necessary, just a willingness to learn and participate. We’ll have meals and snacks throughout the weekend event.     Join the Data Science League as we welcome Ryan Eberle from Chick-Fil-A on March 24th in Bruner Hall 327!

    Ryan Eberle is a Lead Analyst of Customer & Digital Insights at Chick-fil-A on the Customer & Market Insights Team. He will be sharing what data science looks like at Chick-fil-A, what tools and skillsets are used by analysts, and what types of analysis they are currently working on in support of growing Chick-fil-A sales and customer engagement.

    Data Science League Presents a Talk with Dr. Rina Singh Thursday March 10th

    Join the Data Science League this Thursday March 10th at 11 A.M. in Bruner Hall 327 to hear Dr. Rina Singh speak on Machine Learning and more! Financial institutes routinely use machine learning models for a broad range of activities, including credit risk management, regulatory compliance, and fraud detection. In this presentation, we will investigate how to build a simple NLP model for detecting fraud. We will explore simple improvements that can be made to our model and conclude with a discussion on model interpretability.

    Session 2: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM LSC 1211 (Trivia Night – Jackbox)

  • Join DSL & Ratio Christi as we welcome Dr. Thacker to speak on the ethics of AI!

    Join us on March 3rd at 7 PM in Bruner Hall Auditorium (Room 119), refreshments will be provided!

    Movies about AI entertain us, even as AI is used in their production. From sci-fi thrillers to everyday life, AI is always there in background life – to Google search to Siri to Amazon Echo to medical diagnostics to e-commerce. And then, there are drones and self-driving cars, and the meta verse. In this talk, Jason Thacker will help us understand how digital technology shapes everything about our lives, including how we view God, ourselves, and the world around us.
