2021 Outstanding Diversity Advocate Award Recipient
The Commission on the Status of Blacks and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, awarded the Outstanding Diversity Advocate Award to Dr. Julie Baker, Associate Dean of the College of Education, on April 6. This award was given in recognition of all the meaningful work and outstanding support Dr. Baker has done in the many areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has lead by example and provided outstanding support in the following areas: mentoring support to minority students, social support, and academic support. Thank you again to Dr. Baker for all her efforts and commitment to the students, university, and the local community. Congratulations!

Annual Performance Evaluation Training Available
Annual Performance Evaluation Training Available
Employee and Supervisor training is being offered for the 2021 Annual Performance Evaluation process for staff employees. Training session attendance is optional, BUT is highly encouraged for NEW Supervisors and Employees.
Employee training will cover how to login to the system, evaluation steps, instructions for employee tasks, how to fully complete the employee self-evaluation.
Supervisor training will cover best practice tips, performance coaching, and how to properly rate and evaluate employees. Supervisor training sessions are limited only to employees currently in supervisor roles.

John Smith Named Associate Vice President of University Development
On July 1, 2020, University Advancement named John Smith as interim associate vice president of University Development. As of January 1, 2021, Smith has permanently accepted the associate vice president position and will continue to provide long-term strategic leadership for the university’s philanthropic needs; offer day-to-day leadership of the Development Team; and serve as a thought partner to deans, chairpersons and other academic leaders. Previously, Smith served as the executive director of University Advancement and has 25 years of experience in relationship building, fundraising and advancement policy. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science and a Master of Business Administration Degree, both from Tennessee Tech.
