Equestrian Team Service Event
Four members of the Tennessee Tech Equestrian Team participated as Service Volunteers at the Youth Equestrian Development Association National Finals, held last week at the Tri State Expo in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mackenzie Garmer, Shantini West, Kerri Young and Olivia Abston cleaned/disenfected common areas, ran judges cards to score keepers, sold raffle tickets and programs, and “other duties as assigned”. They were rewarded with cash Volunteer Awards.

College of Education Celebrates National Teacher Appreciation Week
In its sixth year the Annual Teacher Appreciation Celebration, coordinated by the College of Education and in partnership with local businesses, strives to recognize dedicated P-12 teachers and up-and-coming teacher candidates. This year’s Teacher Appreciation awards, in a variety of categories, have been presented virtually.
Future educators awards went to Kaitlyn Eastin, a graduate student pursuing her master’s degree in Secondary Education/Math; the undergraduate award was presented to Richard Hendricks, an Elementary Education major.
The 2020 Alumna of the Year was Hunter Zanardi. She is an Instructional Specialist / RTI2 Interventionist at Algood Elementary providing a multi-tiered approach to assisting students with their learning, social, and behavioral needs.

Vickie Floyd Retiring
After 35 years with Tennessee Tech University, Vickie Floyd of the Business Office is retiring. Today, Friday, May 1, 2020 is her last day with Tennessee Tech. There will be a retirement celebration held for Vickie at a later date when we can all gather together. Vickie will be greatly missed; however, we wish her the best retired life!

We want you to know there are resources to help through EAP for all full-time benefited employees who are eligible for the insurance plan. Plan members can receive five counseling sessions at no cost. Optum also offers referral services such as financial assistance services, legal consultation services, help applying for disaster relief and temporary housing assistance, recommendations for home repair contractors, transportation assistance, assistance understanding how to replace important documents, and more.

Nisbet named January Ambassador
Matt Nisbet, formerly a financial associate in the College of Business and current assistant director of operations for Residential Life, has been named the first Ambassador of the Month for 2020.
“Matt is one of the most professional, respectful people I know,” said economics professor Ferdinand DiFurio in his nomination letter. “He is also very dependable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his work at TTU.”
Business instructor Larry Smith said Nisbet is a team player who works conscientiously for the students and faculty without seeking recognition.
“The Ambassador of the Month honor would be perfect for him,” he said.
Fellow instructor Donna Smith said recognizing Nisbet as the Ambassador of the Month would be perfect.
“Matt’s tireless and wholehearted support of students and the entire College of Business is outstanding but often behind the scenes,” she said.
Business professor Curtis Armstrong said that Nisbet is an excellent example of an administrator with a servant’s heart.
“He is constantly committed to helping those he serves,” he said.
Clay Wesley, associate director of the College of Business’ Student Success Center, said Nisbet is the most consistent, integrity-filled professional he has ever been on a team with.
“He does things the right way, is constantly looking for ways to improve process and is never self-promoting,” he said. “He has helped me out of a jam (self-inflicted, usually) many times. Most people (like me) have no idea of all the processes needed to be completed correctly to keep the records clean and bills paid. No matter what mess someone has made, I have never seen or heard Matt be anything but positively professional in getting it fixed. And he doesn’t mind training us better for next time.”
As Ambassador of the Month, Nisbet received a letter of recognition, a signed certificate and a reserved parking space on campus for one month.
