    2021 Outstanding Diversity Advocate Award Recipient

    The Commission on the Status of Blacks and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, awarded the Outstanding Diversity Advocate Award to Dr. Julie Baker, Associate Dean of the College of Education, on April 6.  This award was given in recognition of all the meaningful work and outstanding support Dr. Baker has done in the many areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  She has lead by example and provided outstanding support in the following areas: mentoring support to minority students, social support, and academic support. Thank you again to Dr. Baker for all her efforts and commitment to the students, university, and the local community. Congratulations!

  • Annual Performance Self-Evaluations Reminder

    Reminder: All full time staff performance self-evaluations are due by Thursday, April 15, 2021.

    By now all supervisors should have logged into People Admin and created the plan, initiating self-evaluations. Please log into People Admin via Tech Express to complete your 2020-2021 self-evaluation in a timely manner.

  • Outstanding C&S Staff Award & Outstanding Professional Award

    Nominations are currently being accepted for the Outstanding Professional Award and the Outstanding C&S Staff Award. Awards are based on job performance, attitude toward University constituencies, commitment and service to the University, professional development and suggestions for program improvements.  Nominations can be made by any member of the University community (faculty, staff and students).  Please visit our employee recognition page linked below for more information and to make a nomination.   • Annual Performance Evaluation Training Available

    Annual Performance Evaluation Training Available

    Employee and Supervisor training is being offered for the 2021 Annual Performance Evaluation process for staff employees.  Training session attendance is optional, BUT is highly encouraged for NEW Supervisors and Employees.

    Employee training will cover how to login to the system, evaluation steps, instructions for employee tasks, how to fully complete the employee self-evaluation.

    Supervisor training will cover best practice tips, performance coaching, and how to properly rate and evaluate employees. Supervisor training sessions are limited only to employees currently in supervisor roles.

  • John Smith Named Associate Vice President of University Development

    John Smith Named Associate Vice President of University Development

    On July 1, 2020, University Advancement named John Smith as interim associate vice president of University Development. As of January 1, 2021, Smith has permanently accepted the associate vice president position and will continue to provide long-term strategic leadership for the university’s philanthropic needs; offer day-to-day leadership of the Development Team; and serve as a thought partner to deans, chairpersons and other academic leaders. Previously, Smith served as the executive director of University Advancement and has 25 years of experience in relationship building, fundraising and advancement policy. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in computer science and a Master of Business Administration Degree, both from Tennessee Tech.

    The Computer Science Diversity Committee is hosting a Diversity & Inclusion Seminar Series featuring four amazing speakers. Thursday, October 22, Dr. Margaret Burnett will be our speaker.  Dr. Burnett is a Professor at Oregon State University in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.  She is the creator of the GENDERMAG project, which helps software developers & usability professionals find and fix software features with such gender-inclusiveness “bugs”.     Cards for Senior Citizens

    Interested in writing a letter to a local nursing home resident? Stop by on Wednesday evening, write a letter, and we’ll be sure to deliver it to the NHC local nursing home! They would really appreciate a good note to brighten their day. For convenience, please bring writing/coloring utensils to help us prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus. We’ll be having this event at Johnson Hall 103 on Wednesday, September 30th from 5 to 7:30pm. Hope to see you there!

  • Equestrian Team Service Event

    Four members of the Tennessee Tech Equestrian Team participated as Service Volunteers at the Youth Equestrian Development Association National Finals, held last week at the Tri State Expo in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mackenzie Garmer, Shantini West, Kerri Young and Olivia Abston cleaned/disenfected common areas, ran judges cards to score keepers, sold raffle tickets and programs, and “other duties as assigned”. They were rewarded with cash Volunteer Awards.

  • College of Education Celebrates National Teacher Appreciation Week

    College of Education Celebrates National Teacher Appreciation Week

    In its sixth year the Annual Teacher Appreciation Celebration, coordinated by the College of Education and in partnership with local businesses, strives to recognize dedicated P-12 teachers and up-and-coming teacher candidates. This year’s Teacher Appreciation awards, in a variety of categories, have been presented virtually.

    Future educators awards went to Kaitlyn Eastin, a graduate student pursuing her master’s degree in Secondary Education/Math; the undergraduate award was presented to Richard Hendricks, an Elementary Education major.

    The 2020 Alumna of the Year was Hunter Zanardi. She is an Instructional Specialist / RTI2 Interventionist at Algood Elementary providing a multi-tiered approach to assisting students with their learning, social, and behavioral needs.
