  • Native Americans to speak on indigenous issues

    Native Americans to speak on indigenous issues

    Thursday, Feb. 23- 6:00 p.m. at the Backdoor Playhouse: a panel of five Native American activists representing five different tribes will lead a discussion about issues that concern the modern indigenous community. Panelists include leadership of the Tanasi chapter of AIM (American Indian Movement) Indian Territory.

    The event will be moderated by Dr. Troy Smith of the History Dept., co-hosted by TTU College Democrats and Students for a Democratic Society, and funded by Center Stage and the College of Arts and Sciences. For details contact Dr. Smith at tdsmith@tntech.edu .

    Reminder: Nominations for the 2023 Derryberry Award due March 1

    The 2023 Derryberry Award nomination deadline is Wednesday, March 1. This award was established in honor of the late Everett Derryberry after 34 years as president of Tennessee Tech. This prestigious honor grants a plaque and cash award to a graduating senior who demonstrates a high level of scholastic achievement and successful campus involvement in leadership and enrichment opportunities. Individuals who graduated in December 2022 or are scheduled to graduate in May or August 2023 are eligible for nomination.     College of Business faculty member remembers Middle Tennessee businessman

    Ryan Nation, Lecturer of Business Management and Tech alum, recently published an article about late Tennessee businessman and wrestling promoter, Jerry Jarrett.

    Nation’s article chronicled his relationship with Jerry Jarrett who promoted wrestling events in the Upper Cumberland area during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

    Under the banner Jarrett Promotions, he promoted wrestling events sponsored by the Tennessee Tech chapter of Phi Gamma Delta as shown in the advertisement from the April 18, 1986 edition of The Oracle.
