Last Saturday, the Golden Eagles VEX U Robotics Team associated with the Autonomous Robotics Club (ARC) achieved the current highest combined skills score among all VEX U teams around the world, which has 300+ teams competing annually. In the VEX Robotics Competition, teams clash with the goal of outscoring their opponent in robot sports.
The Skills Challenge of VRC allows teams to run a time trial, where their goal is to score points unopposed during a 1-minute period. Teams get 3 autonomous runs where the robot runs off its own code and sensors, and 3 driver controlled runs where team members operate the robots. ARC’s max scores were 134 driver and 61 autonomous, for a max total score of 195.

CPR Classes at the Burn!
Campus Recreation is happy to announce that Heartsaver CPR/AED classes are now available at the Marc. L. Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center. Learn how to provide CPR to infants, children, and adults. You will also be trained in the use of the Automated External Defibrillators (AED). Successful completion of this class will result in you being certified in Heartsaver CPR/AED by the American Heart Association. This class is meant to prepare you to deal with cardiac emergencies until professional emergency medical service providers arrive at the scene. It is a 2-year certification. Classes are scheduled now for November and December, with the first class being on Tuesday, November 14th at 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) for our first Tech Tuesday in November. Faculty-Student Interactions (FSI) are important to student success, and yet students report they don’t know how to engage with faculty beyond course time. Some faculty are reconceptualizing office hours as a way to increase FSI. Join us at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 7th via Microsoft Teams as we explore some recent trends in FSI and explore the merits of experimenting with office hours. Tennessee Tech Applies for “Best Places to Work”
Tennessee Tech University is participating in an employee engagement and satisfaction survey managed by Best Companies Group. The survey will serve two objectives: 1) Use consolidated feedback to help identify and address issues and concerns to promote retention, and 2) Earn recognition as a “Best Place to Work” in Tennessee to enhance talent recruitment and interest in working at Tennessee Tech.
As a part of the survey, 350 faculty and staff will be randomly selected by the Best Companies Group to complete their online workforce survey via email on Nov. 7. The survey should only take 10-15 minutes to complete, and your participation is appreciated. Art Inspired by Archives Contest
University Archives is announcing the first annual “Art Inspired by Archives” contest. This year we are highlighting Cosmouse, Tennessee Tech’s space traveling mouse. Winners will be selected by a committee composed of staff, faculty, and a student. First place winner will receive a $75 gift card and second place winner will receive a $25 gift card.
All artwork must be received by November 10 and winners will be announced November 17. Artwork will be accepted by anyone 18 and over. Artwork will be evaluated on technique and composition, creativity and originality, and adherence to the competition theme. Select artworks to be featured in an exhibit at Volpe.
