Tennessee Tech Athletics is home to more than 300 student-athletes representing 14 varsity sports. This proud tradition is a century in the making. The Non-Traditional Student Organization (NTSO) at Tennessee Tech is hosting a Diaper and Baby Wipe Drive to benefit The Food Pantry on Tuesday, March 22, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Help us help our fellow non-traditional students who are also parents by donating new and unopened packages of diapers and wipes. We will be collecting outside of the RUC lower-level entrance.

Researchers generally consider nontraditional students to have the following characteristics: being independent for financial aid purposes, having one or more dependents, being a single caregiver, not having a traditional high school diploma, delaying postsecondary enrollment, attending school part time, and being employed full time (U.S. Dept. of Education, 2017).

ASPIRES is a new federally-funded grant program at Tech that recruits and trains registered nurses and professional advocates to provide care for survivors of sexual assault. ASPIRES focuses on providing forensic exams (i.e. rape kits), comprehensive advocacy services, connection to resources, care in an encouraging and positive manner, promoting a healing environment and addressing the basic human needs of safety, security and increased self-esteem. While the federal grant covers operating costs, ASPIRES hopes that through the I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative they can raise money to offer additional support for survivors. For example, they would like to be able to provide each survivor with a tote bag that includes a change of clothes, toiletries, adult coloring books, stress balls, coping cards, water and snacks.

The Eagle’s Wing Veterans Center is a 1,028-square-foot space located on the third floor of the Jere Whitson building and is dedicated to Tech’s veterans, servicemembers and their dependents. The “Vet Center,” as it is affectionately known, serves as an on-campus hub where student veterans can get information or assistance with their military benefits, study, socialize, relax or even grab some much-needed nourishment. Support of the Vet Center through the I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative will allow the Military and Veteran Affairs Office to continue their work of ensuring student veterans, servicemembers and their families have a place where they can find camaraderie, resources and advocacy.

Tennessee Tech alumni are its most passionate ambassadors and loyal donors, because they know that a Tech education creates opportunities, prepares career-ready graduates and changes lives. For many students, affording college tuition without financial aid is impossible. The Tennessee Tech Alumni Association established the Alumni Association Scholarship nearly 30 years ago to help students pursue a college degree.

Tech’s student media tell the stories of campus and provide excellent hands-on learning experiences in journalism. The student-run newspaper, magazine, radio station, television station and yearbook offer students the chance to gain practical skills for their future careers. The Golden Eagle Media Fund was established to support paid positions on the student media so that students can participate while earning pay to cover their college living expenses.

The Whitson-Hester School of Nursing asks the Golden Eagle community to support the Nursing Student Scholarship and Nursing Student Emergency Fund. These scholarships and emergency funds reward the best and brightest prospective and current nursing students and allow the WHSON to step in and assist students who are experiencing financial hardships that threaten their journey to a nursing career. We need nurses now more than ever!

The College of Interdisciplinary Studies hopes that the funds raised through this year’s I Heart Tech Students initiative will help their college grow! The CoIS has students from all walks of life – fresh out of high school, military personnel and veterans, adult learners, professionals and non-professionals, all seeking their bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or Ph.D. Private support will allow the College to provide students with a quality education that gives them a competitive edge in today’s job market.

The College of Fine Arts is focused on “value-added experiences” so that students may have a rich, full fine arts experience and take advantage of the many offerings in the mid-south. Field trips will allow students to experience art, music and culture in Nashville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Knoxville and beyond at little or no cost to the student. Many Tech students do not have access to these cities, and arts events are either cost-prohibitive or not easily accessible. Fine Arts students should have a rich experience beyond Cookeville, and field trips offered by the college provide a safe way to travel together, an experienced guide for events and tours and a safe way to return to campus.
