Tech’s radio station, 88.5 – The Nest, will be broadcasting live this Friday and Saturday for Preview Days! Friday, we will be set up in the STEM Center from 1-3 p.m., and on Saturday we will be set in the Marc L Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center from 9-11 a.m. Be listening for Tech trivia and come by our booth and correctly answer questions for some cool swag and prizes. Many LGBTQ+ individuals experience negative mental health issues due to the prejudice and other biases they face- even the act of coming out is surrounded by fear for many. In fact, research suggests that queer people experience mental health conditions at a rate almost 3 times higher than the general population.
Without mental health we cannot be healthy. It is our hope that LGBTQ+ individuals find this support group to be a safe outlet for them to discuss these challenges and find a sense of community online. We want LGBTQ+ students at Tech to not just make it through their time here, but to flourish- you are worthy of a full and free life.
This group is open to anyone who identifies anywhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, including those who don’t know what that means for them! Participants are welcome to come and be accepted as themselves.

Rural Reimagined has many opportunities for students to get involved in transforming rural living this semester through science, technology, and innovation. If you’re interested and want to know how YOU can get involved, look no further. Consider joining the Rural Reimagined Club (RRC). Kester Nucum, RRC President, states, “The Rural Reimagined Club’s mission is to build awareness and advocacy for rural communities. We want our members not only to be informed of the relevant and pressing issues facing rural areas, but we also want to connect them with opportunities to pursue their passions and interests while serving these communities.” Other RR opportunities include academic credit hour and paid internships, which are all designed to specifically meet your goals and interests. The Alumni Association annually presents awards to individuals who have demonstrated professional success or recognition among the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Tennessee Tech. Individuals are recognized in the following categories: Distinguished Alumnus Award, Outstanding Young Alumnus Award, Outstanding Service Award, and Outstanding Philanthropy Award. If you know any Tech alumni who are deserving of such an award, we hope you’ll nominate them. Rural Reimagined is proud to recognize Art Education students Pedro Laboy, Veston Phillippi, Chuck Kail, and Becca Boggs for teaching ten visual arts class sessions every week in a surrounding rural community. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jeremy Blair, they are teaching primarily to Kindergarten and first graders at Baxter Primary School in Baxter, TN. Examples of art lessons include learning simple shapes and colors, making flags, and creating textures with homemade slime. Dr. Blair states, “We identified Baxter Primary School as a great partner due to its rural location, early childhood student body, and reasonable commuting range for my participating TN Tech students.” They will continue teaching at BPS until the end of the semester but hope to continue in the Spring.
