The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) is hosting a mask design contest from Sept. 28 – Oct. 4. Bags with white cotton masks, fabric markers, and contest directions will be given out on Monday, Sept. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Foster (corner of University Dr and Peachtree). In case of rain we will be giving out the supplies in the RUC by the caf. There are three categories to compete in: Tech themed, Science themed, and General. Submission can be made via Instagram or sent our email at smacsttu@gmail.com. All contest submissions must be received by Sunday, Oct. 4 to be considered. If you are not able to pick up your supplies on Monday please email us to arrange a pick up. The winner in each category will receive a $10 gift card. This event was funded by SOLO and is open to all Tech students.

On September 24th from 11 to 12 (dead hour) in the Multi-purpose Room in the RUC, panelists with different jobs will speak about their careers as well as their experiences in the workplace. Time will be given at the end for audience questions. Boxed lunches will be given to all who attend. We will also have a drawing for Eagle’s Flight swag after the presentation. The electric vehicle (EV) Ride & Drive event will come to Cookeville TN, for the first time. Join us for this interactive in-person ride and drive as part of the National Drive Electric Week. Justice Janice Holder was the first female chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. She retired from the bench in 2014 and currently serves as a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 mediator and is on the Roster of Mediators and Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.

Tomorrow, 9/22, Center Stage presents Ending a Legacy of Maya Genocide
Heather Dean first encountered the people of Copal AA when she was reporting on human rights conditions in Mexican refugee camps. She accompanied their return from exile as they collectively built a new village. Dean will highlight the work of the women’s group in Copal AA and the impact of education in women’s lives, within the wider context of the current fight for indigenous rights and ongoing ecological and political issues in Guatemala. This is a Center Stage event hosted by the Women’s Center and will take place in Derryberry Auditorium at 7 pm. Socially distant seating with masks required, but open to everyone.
