Please join us on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 for Tennessee Tech’s annual Trumpet Day with in-person guest artist Stuart Stephenson, principal trumpet of the Atlanta Symphony, and virtual guest artist Tine Thing Helseth, international trumpet soloist from Norway.

This event will run in-person in the Bryan Fine Arts Building at Tennessee Tech University, located at 1150 N. Dixie Ave. in Cookeville, TN. Registration is free for Tennessee Tech students, faculty, and staff. A registration fee of $15 is required for the non-Tech community and includes the full day of events, lunch, and a swag bag. Tine Thing Helseth’s masterclass, supported by Center Stage, is open to the public. Registration begins at 9am with the first event kicking off at 10am. Center Stage and the Commission on the Status of Women are very excited to present “Medical Misogyny: A Conversation with Maya Dusenbery” on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 7:00 PM in the Derryberry Auditorium. The author will discuss her award-winning book Doing Harm: The Truth About How Bad Medicine and Lazy Science Leaves Women Dismissed, Misdiagnosed, and Sick followed by a Q&A with the audience, reception, and book signing.

About the Author:

Maya Dusenbery is a journalist, editor, and author. Her book Doing Harm was a New York Times Editors’ Choice pick and the winner of the 2019 Minnesota Book Award for general nonfiction. She has been a guest on NPR, Good Morning America, and a variety of podcasts and radio programs to discuss her book, medical misogyny, and reproductive issues. Formerly the editorial director of the feminist blog Feministing.com, Maya has written for publications including the New York Times Magazine, Scientific American, Slate, Mother Jones, and Pacific Standard. She regularly speaks about gender bias in medicine to students, health care providers, patient advocates, and researchers.

Sunday is Tennessee Tech’s Charter Day!

On March 27, 1915, a group of local officials came together to establish an institution of higher education in Cookeville. From Dixie College to Tennessee Polytechnic Institute to Tennessee Tech University, the place we fondly call “Tech” has come a long way in 107 years.

March 27 celebrates the 10,500 students who currently attend Tech. It celebrates the 80,000 alumni who call Tech their alma mater. It celebrates the 1,100 faculty and staff who dedicate their careers to helping students. It celebrates all the ways in which the City of Cookeville embraces the university. And it celebrates Tennessee Tech, a place that has changed so many lives.
