Tennessee Tech welcomes poet, essayist, and audio writer Garrett Hongo for two events on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Hongo will share “The Mirror Diary,” a lecture about the invention of an ancestral writer, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in TJ Farr Room 308. He will read from The Perfect Sound: A Memoir in Stereo, at the Backdoor Playhouse starting at 7:00 p.m. in a free event open to everyone. These opportunities are sponsored by Center Stage and the TTU English Department.

Garrett Hongo is the author of three collections of poetry, including The River of Heaven, which received the Lamont Poetry Prize and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The Perfect Sound: A Memoir in Stereo is his most recent book of essays, about listening to music, sound engineering, and his Hawai’ian and Japanese-American identity. He writes regularly for SoundStage! Ultra.
