Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Matthew Langford (Nursing) for receiving Level 3 funding ($10,000-$25,000) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Langford proposed his project titled “Rural Reimagined: The Urgent Care Mental Health Model,” which hopes to increase accessibility for urgent, non-crisis care and mental health services in Tennessee’s rural Upper Cumberland. By increasing access to mental health resources, his project could provide large-standing social implications, such as improving local mental health, decreasing stress on local law enforcement and emergency departments, and guiding other communities to build similar programs through the dissemination of the project model. We congratulate Dr. Langford and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!

70 years ago, on February 28, 1953, James D. Watson and Francis Crick interrupted patrons’ lunchtime at the Eagle Pub in Cambridge to announce that they have, “discovered the secret of life” — the structure of the DNA double helix. In recognition of this historic event, the Student Affiliates of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at TTU is sponsoring the Week of Biochemistry. We invite all students to join us in celebrating and plan several events throughout the week:

Wednesday, Mar. 1 @ 7pm in LSC 1211 — Screening of the movie Knives Out, a 2019 mystery film about a detective investigating the death of the patriarch of a wealthy, dysfunctional family. Starring Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Thursday, Mar. 2 @ 11 am in SLH 126 — Dr. Jeffrey O. Boles will be presenting a research talk about Unnatural Amino Acids.

Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Lauren Michel (Earth Sciences), Dr. Troy Smith (History), Dr. Evan Hart (Earth Sciences), and Ms. Megan Atkinson (University Archives) for receiving Level 3 funding ($10,000-$25,000) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Michel’s team proposed their project titled “Establishment of the Upper Cumberland Climate History Project,” which will remedy the Upper Cumberland’s lack of consistent climate studies by examining archives and collecting “published meteorological and historical records to create databases of paleoclimate.” Their project’s generated resources will help assess the past and future climate changes in this region. We congratulate Dr. Michel, Dr. Smith, Dr. Hart, and Ms. Atkinson and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!
