OER program and payment opportunity
Provost Bruce’s OER (Open Educational Resources) program offers discretionary funds to selected faculty to transition their courses from traditional textbooks to their own, newly created OERs. This program helps increase equity in access to quality, zero-cost educational materials. Faculty interested in creating an OER as part of this program must submit an application by 11/4/2024. Grant Opportunity-Study Abroad Program Development
The U.S. Department of State’s IDEAS Program is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025 IDEAS grant competition, which assists U.S. colleges and universities in creating and/or expanding their study abroad programming in support of U.S. foreign policy goals. The IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students) Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by World Learning. The 2025 grant competition will award approximately 35 grants of up to $35,000 each to accredited colleges and universities. An informational webinar will be given on October 22, 2024. Course Evaluation Information Session with IARE – October 25
Get the most out of your course evaluations. The Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, & Effectiveness is hosting an online session about the IDEA course evaluation tool and the role of instructors in selecting the Student Learning Objectives most appropriate for their courses. When instructors select the most relevant objectives for their courses, IDEA reports provide a better evaluation for what occurs in the classroom. WEST Workshop 10/3: Rhetorical Situations
The rules for writing aren’t always the same. What works in a Freshman Composition paper doesn’t work in a lab report, and your strategies for writing a Spanish essay won’t apply with a med school statement. All of this varies based on what we call the “rhetorical situation.” Want help understanding this issue? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, has got you covered! On Thursday, 10/3, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on understanding rhetorical situations. We can talk about ways to assess different situations and how to figure out the “rules” for any piece of writing. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required. And if you can’t make the workshop, come for a one-on-one session with one of our consultants. For availability and scheduling, check out our website. Scholarship Application for 2025-2026 Now Open
The TN Tech Scholarship Application for the 2025-2026 academic year is available now through Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for Tennessee Tech scholarships next year. The Scholarship Office encourages campus offices and departments to help remind students to apply for scholarships. The 2025-2026 Scholarship Application Flyer and digital signs will be available soon. Students can be directed to our website for instructions. Gen Ed program review update
During the 2023-24, the Gen Ed Vision Committee gathered information to discern the vision for Tennessee Tech’s general education program. The committee prepared recommendations to guide the new Gen Ed Implementation Committee as it examines and plans for the implementation of a new general education program.
Professors Holly Anthony and Linda Null will co-chair the Gen Ed Implementation Committee.

Apply for Next Year’s Scholarships by December 15
The general scholarship application for the 2025-2026 academic year is available now through Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for over 700 Tennessee Tech scholarships for the Fall 2025, Spring 2026 and Summer 2026 terms.
If you have a renewable departmental scholarship, you have to re-apply every year in order for that scholarship to be renewed!

Tennessee Legislative Internship Program
Tennessee Legislative Internship Program- Applications due Tuesday October 8th
Apply to participate in a full-time paid internship in the Tennessee General Assembly in Nashville for the Spring 2025 semester. You will experience the state legislative process hands on, gain valuable expertise in state government, build relationships with state leaders, all while earning academic credit!
