At the TN Art Education Association (TAEA) Fall Conference, held at MTSU, art education professor Jeremy Blair, along with his students Leona Phillips and Aimee Lawrence, co-led an insightful session titled Dialogue in the Classroom: Art Debates, Controversies, and Critical Thinking. This session equipped K-12 art teachers with practical strategies to foster respectful, engaging discussions around controversial art topics, helping K-12 students navigate complex social issues through critical thinking and open dialogue.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2024-2025 Caplenor Faculty Research Award is Friday, November 29, 2024. No individual may nominate more than one person. WEST Workshop 11/5: Annotated Bibliographies!
Does your research require an Annotated Bibliography? Have you never written one, or perhaps you need some pointers on how to make yours pop? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, is here to help! On Tuesday, 11/5, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on writing annotated bibliographies. We can talk about the genre and discuss specific concerns you might have. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required, and all are welcome. Non-instructional assignments are designed to contribute to the professional growth of faculty; improve teaching and curricula across the University; and/or enhance the scholarship and academic excellence of Tennessee Tech.
Important Dates: January 10, 2025 – Proposals due to Department Chairs; January 24, 2025 – Proposals due to Academic Affairs; February 14,2025 – Recipients and Chairs notified of awards.

OER program and payment opportunity
Provost Bruce’s OER (Open Educational Resources) program offers discretionary funds to selected faculty to transition their courses from traditional textbooks to their own, newly created OERs. This program helps increase equity in access to quality, zero-cost educational materials. Faculty interested in creating an OER as part of this program must submit an application by 11/4/2024. Grant Opportunity-Study Abroad Program Development
The U.S. Department of State’s IDEAS Program is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025 IDEAS grant competition, which assists U.S. colleges and universities in creating and/or expanding their study abroad programming in support of U.S. foreign policy goals. The IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students) Program is a program of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in its implementation by World Learning. The 2025 grant competition will award approximately 35 grants of up to $35,000 each to accredited colleges and universities. An informational webinar will be given on October 22, 2024.
