The rules for writing aren’t always the same. What works in a Freshman Composition paper doesn’t work in a lab report, and your strategies for writing a Spanish essay won’t apply with a med school statement. All of this varies based on what we call the “rhetorical situation.” Want help understanding this issue? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, has got you covered! On Thursday, 10/3, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on understanding rhetorical situations. We can talk about ways to assess different situations and how to figure out the “rules” for any piece of writing. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. Scholarship Application for 2025-2026 Now Open
The TN Tech Scholarship Application for the 2025-2026 academic year is available now through Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for Tennessee Tech scholarships next year. The Scholarship Office encourages campus offices and departments to help remind students to apply for scholarships. The 2025-2026 Scholarship Application Flyer and digital signs will be available soon. Students can be directed to our website for instructions. Gen Ed program review update
During the 2023-24, the Gen Ed Vision Committee gathered information to discern the vision for Tennessee Tech’s general education program. The committee prepared recommendations to guide the new Gen Ed Implementation Committee as it examines and plans for the implementation of a new general education program.
Professors Holly Anthony and Linda Null will co-chair the Gen Ed Implementation Committee.

Apply for Next Year’s Scholarships by December 15
The general scholarship application for the 2025-2026 academic year is available now through Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for over 700 Tennessee Tech scholarships for the Fall 2025, Spring 2026 and Summer 2026 terms.
If you have a renewable departmental scholarship, you have to re-apply every year in order for that scholarship to be renewed!

Tennessee Legislative Internship Program- Applications due Tuesday October 8th
Apply to participate in a full-time paid internship in the Tennessee General Assembly in Nashville for the Spring 2025 semester. Environmental Studies & Earth Sciences Students Study Abroad in Scotland
“Once in a lifetime..I wouldn’t trade my experiences on this trip for anything” said one of the eleven students that joined Dr. Samantha Allen, Professor David Hajdik and Philip Roberson from the School of Environmental Studies & Earth Sciences to Scotland to explore sustainability and aid in service projects. The group visited key areas around Scotland and also partnered with locals, Chrissie Gillies and Tom Lusink from the Isle of Raasay Carbon Neutral Islands Project to aid in ongoing efforts to use remote sensing and GIS to map the Isle of Raasay and the invasive spread of Rhododendron.
