    The campus community is invited to the English Department’s Festival of Student Writing, which showcases projects created this semester by students in ENGL 1010 and 1020 classes (English Composition I & II). The main feature of this lively event is the work of hundreds of first-year students who display and discuss their work at various booths and tables. Expect to see posters, exhibits, brochures, multimedia presentations, performances, and surprises. The event is designed for interaction; guests should ask students to talk about their projects: explain, expand, elaborate, elucidate, or enlighten. Now in its twenty-first year, the Festival is an exciting highlight of the fall semester.

    Counseling & Supervision Ph.D. Students and Faculty Present in Dallas

    Tech Counseling & Supervision Ph.D. students and faculty attended the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision 2024 Conference in Dallas, TX. Students who presented included Lara Strate, Ravi Patel, Jasmine Reynolds, Paige Seymour, Regina Beach, and Alec Porter, with faculty mentors Agnes Luo, Mark Loftis, Katherine Wood, and Jonathan Wiley. Their presentations covered doctoral researcher development, group learning experiences, teaching social justice and advocacy, and expressive arts teaching.     Art Education Students and Professor Present at Conference

    At the TN Art Education Association (TAEA) Fall Conference, held at MTSU, art education professor Jeremy Blair, along with his students Leona Phillips and Aimee Lawrence, co-led an insightful session titled Dialogue in the Classroom: Art Debates, Controversies, and Critical Thinking. This session equipped K-12 art teachers with practical strategies to foster respectful, engaging discussions around controversial art topics, helping K-12 students navigate complex social issues through critical thinking and open dialogue.

    The Caplenor Faculty Research Award is Tennessee Tech’s highest honor bestowed upon its faculty. The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2024-2025 Caplenor Faculty Research Award is Friday, November 29, 2024. No individual may nominate more than one person.     WEST Workshop 11/5: Annotated Bibliographies!

    Does your research require an Annotated Bibliography? Have you never written one, or perhaps you need some pointers on how to make yours pop? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, is here to help! On Tuesday, 11/5, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on writing annotated bibliographies. We can talk about the genre and discuss specific concerns you might have. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required, and all are welcome.  If you can’t make the workshop, come for a one-on-one session with one of our consultants. For availability and scheduling, check out our website.     Faculty may now submit 2025-26 Non-Instructional Faculty Assignments proposals. Non-instructional assignments are designed to contribute to the professional growth of faculty; improve teaching and curricula across the University; and/or enhance the scholarship and academic excellence of Tennessee Tech.

    Important Dates: January 10, 2025 – Proposals due to Department Chairs; January 24, 2025 – Proposals due to Academic Affairs; February 14,2025 – Recipients and Chairs notified of awards.

    Are you looking for a challenge of epic proportions?
    The preeminent college math competition, the Putnam Exam takes place on the first Saturday in December, and is given here on campus. It consists of two 3-hour sessions, comprising a dozen fiendishly constructed puzzles that call upon both your math knowledge and your problem-solving skills. Top performers receive scholarships, and all leave with the knowledge that they have scaled the Mount Everest of math.

  • OER program and payment opportunity

    Provost Bruce’s OER (Open Educational Resources) program offers discretionary funds to selected faculty to transition their courses from traditional textbooks to their own, newly created OERs. This program helps increase equity in access to quality, zero-cost educational materials. Faculty interested in creating an OER as part of this program must submit an application by 11/4/2024.
