    Founder of TN Educators of Color Alliance to Speak Oct. 22

    Dr. Diarese George, ​a former classroom teacher in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, founded the Tennessee Educators of Color Alliance (TECA) in Fall 2016. He and other founding board members saw a lack of people of color involved in education policy at all levels, as well as a lack of convening space and resources in Tennessee for the recruitment and retention of educators of color.

    Dr. George will participate in a panel forum for students on how to support the diversity of K-12 students across the state on Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. in the STEM Center Auditorium.

    Then he will speak on diversity and mentorship in education at 6 p.m. in the STEM Center Auditorium.

    On Oct. 23, Dr. George will be a part of a panel forum for faculty on support for and retention of educators of color. This will be held at 11 a.m. in Bartoo Hall 111.

    Join us on Tuesday, October 21st at 11 a.m. at the Main Quad for this breast cancer awareness event to honor survivors, remember those we lost and learn more about awareness, treatment and support.   • Thanksgiving Food Drive

    Thanksgiving Food Drive

    The TTU food pantry is organizing a Thanksgiving food drive to collect traditional holiday items such as mac and cheese, canned vegetables, pie crust mix, pie fillings, and more. Several community partners—including EMS stations, other first responder locations, and local childcare centers—have already agreed to host donation boxes! We’ll also be placing boxes around campus to make it easy for students to contribute!

    Our goal is to collect enough donations to fill 100 Thanksgiving bags for distribution during the week of the holiday. Many students rely on the food pantry regularly, and several won’t be able to travel home for Thanksgiving. We want to ensure they have access to a warm, comforting meal!

    The Launchpad Student Success Center will host Midterm Tune-Up: Get Back on Track and Finish Strong from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, October 14th, in Room 106  in TJ FARR.

    Share this workshop with students you know who could benefit. Participants will learn how to get back on track and what their options are before the “W” grade deadline (Fri. Oct. 24th). This workshop is their chance to hit the refresh button!
