    Calling all FIRST Lego League VOLUNTEERS!!

    The FIRST Lego League East Tennessee Championship Tournament is Saturday, February 11 in the Memorial Gym.  This year we are expecting 48 teams of middle school students to participate.  That means we need a lot of volunteers in order to make it a successful and positive experience for all those involved.  This is hard work, but I promise it will be fun and rewarding!  It’s kind of like a carnival.  It just kind of springs up out of nowhere, everyone has a great time, and then it disappears until next year.  The kids are so happy and enthusiastic, it is contagious.  You will be amazed at what they can do and by the expressions on their faces.

    Gold Career Readiness PART TWO Workshop on February 2!

    Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, February 2, beginning at 11 am in Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (second floor) for this Gold Career Readiness PART TWO Workshop! This workshop will feature Russ Coughenour, Director for the Center of Career Development, as well as representatives from the Launchpad Advising Center, who will discuss the process of finding the right major for you if you are thinking of possibly switching majors and why this is beneficial for your ultimate career goals!

    This event is open to all students in all majors and counts toward Part Two of the Gold Career Readiness application for freshman and sophomore students. Bring your Eagle Card with you to receive credit for attendance.

    NOTE: This event DOES NOT count toward Gold Career Readiness Workshop attendance in Part Three.

    There is no fee for this vaccine.

  • Faculty Research Committee Announces Call for Proposals for 2022-2023

    The Faculty Research Committee is soliciting proposals for funding for 2022-2023. The application deadline is 4:30 on Friday, Feb. 24. Proposals may be submitted electronically to jdicey@tntech.edu or one hard copy delivered to the Office of Research in Derryberry Hall 305. Application materials are available online at https://www.tntech.edu/research/committees/faculty-research-committee.php

    Please be sure to review the Internal Research Grant Program Handbook for specific information regarding the application procedure and
    eligibility guidelines.

  • Budget Office – Current Estimate & Proposed Budgets

    It’s that time again! Please continue to monitor your indexes/accounts as Current Estimate is right around the corner. Current Estimate budget revisions should be submitted to the Budget Office by Friday, March 10th, as well as Proposed budget revsions for fiscal year 2024 that you would like to be uploaded and reflected with the Proposed Budget when it goes live on July 1st. All academic units will need to have these budget revisions submitted to the Provost’s Office by Friday, March 3rd. Please ensure you are putting the correct fiscal year at the top of each budget revision so that they are reviewed and processed correctly. February budget training sessions will be held next week for anyone who would like to attend that has not already signed up.

  • Dr. Ray Jordan – Receives Robert Hatcher Conservation Achievement Award

    Retired faculty member Dr. Ray Jordan was awarded the 2022 Robert Hatcher Conservation Achievement Award. Dr. Jordan taught for 44 years in the Department of Biology including courses in Herpetology, Ornithology, and Comparative Anatomy, among others. He was well known as an understanding and passionate instructor, and was very popular with students and faculty at TN Tech.

    Dr. Ray Jordan was selected for the Bob Hatcher Award because his career exemplified in teaching, research, and service, a lifetime commitment to the study and conservation of Tennessee’s reptiles and amphibians. His greatest contribution to the conservation of Tennessee’s herpetofauna is probably his tremendous effort to educate students and the public about reptiles and amphibians with his coursework, specimen collection, and outreach efforts. He established a legacy of excellence in herpetological education at Tennessee Tech that continues to this day and will certainly do so for decades to come.

    Have you ever had an idea for an invention to make your life easier? Do you dream about opening up your own store/food truck/other business? Ever thought of an app that’s innovative and solves a problem that drives you crazy?

    Can you talk about any of those things for 90 seconds?

    Join us in the RUC Multipurpose room on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. for the annual Eagle Works Idea Challenge! Pitch your idea to a panel of judges for a chance at a scholarship!

    Students can compete alone or in teams, and will have 90 seconds to pitch their idea – no PowerPoint, no Q&A. Your idea doesn’t need to be fully thought out, but it should be feasible and solve a problem. Get creative and think big!

    There will be two workshops on Feb. 1 (Business Model Canvas) & Feb. 8 (How to Give Your Pitch) at 5 p.m. in the iMakerpace to help prepare for the challenge as well as a pitch practice on Monday, Feb. 13.
