Stonecipher Lecture on April 28th
The College of Arts & Sciences will be holding its annual Stonecipher Lecture on Thursday, April 28th at 6:00 p.m. in the Stonecipher Auditorium, SLH 113. Dr. Vernon Burton will present “Digital Humanity: The Future Is Now.” The event is free and open to the public. 2022 Orientation Overview Meetings
The Office of New Student & Family Programs will be hosting open orientation overview meetings today (4/25) and tomorrow (4/26). These meetings will review information about the SOAR & Transfer Orientation programs for this summer.
We strongly encourage attending one of these meetings if you coordinate orientation efforts for your department/unit, you are new to your department/unit, or you feel that you need a refresher about the university’s orientation programs. Both meetings will cover the same information, so you can choose which date/time fits your schedule best!

Slalom Information Sessions are Monday, April 25
Join Slalom Consulting, a global consulting organization in Nashville, for one of two information sessions being held on Monday, April 25, in the Tech Pride Room. The first session will last from 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. and the second will begin at 2:00 p.m. and end at 2:55 p.m.
Slalom is a modern consulting firm focused on strategy, technology, and business transformation. In 41 markets around the world, Slalom’s teams have autonomy to move fast and do what’s right.
Slalom will be discussing opportunities to join their global consulting organization, including a consulting development program called the Cloud Residency. This is an entry-level position in Nashville for Computer and Information Systems and Technology related majors.

Apply for Washington, D.C., Congressional Internship
The Department of Sociology and Political Science announces an internship opportunity coordinated with Congressman John Rose (TN-06). Rose has internships this summer for Tech students who desire to work in his Washington, D.C. congressional office.
This full-time internship is paid a stipend of $1,800 per month and will begin by the end of May.
Resumes are due as soon as possible and review of resumes and interviews will begin immediately. Internship offers will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you are interested in this opportunity, please act quickly!

SOLO Presents: Emmanuel Agbeli with Ghanaian Drum Ensemble Saturday Apr 23
Emmanuel Agbeli is a renowned Master Drummer from Ghana, West Africa, where he is the Director of Dagbe Cultural Institute and Arts Center. He is known as one of the foremost representatives of Ewe drumming, dancing, and cultural history. He joins Tennessee Tech’s Ghanaian Drumming Ensemble for a performance of traditional music and dance. 6PM, Derryberry Auditorium, Tennessee Tech. Free and open to the public.

New Administrative Associate in the Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry would like to welcome Julie Hudson as our new Administrative Associate. She will be handling room approvals, most registration questions/permit requests, and many other administrative functions. We know that she will be a great asset to our department. Our former Administrative Associate, Lisa Norsworthy, has moved to the Financial Associate position in the chemistry department.

2021 Flexible Spending Account and L-FSA April 30 Deadline
The deadline to file your 2021 FSA or L-FSA claims is fast-approaching! Members have until April 30, 2022, to file any FSA or limited purpose FSA claims that have a service date of January 1-December 31, 2021. Any 2021 FSA or L-FSA claims filed after April 30, 2022, will be denied. Members can submit claims online at www.optumbank.com/Tennessee or via the Optum Bank app (found on the Apple App Store or Google Play).
Optum Financial emailed a reminder to all participants for whom there is an email address on file on March 23, 2022. If you have questions or need assistance, you can contact the Optum Financial customer service team at 1.866.600.4984. *Note this April 30 deadline does not apply to the dependent care FSA, which temporarily has an extended grace period in place, and instead has a deadline of December 31, 2022, for all 2021 claims to be filed.

Carla Hurt Receives Arts & Sciences Award for Research & Scholarly Activity
Dr. Carla Hurt of the Department of Biology is a recipient of the 2021-2022 College of Arts & Sciences Award for Research and Scholarly Activity. This award recognizes a significant research publication or creative project appearing during the previous two years and receiving expert critical review. Dr. Hurt is recognized for using new methods of phylogenomic sequencing to create the first worldwide phylogeny of Alpheus snapping shrimp.

Adam Holley Receives Arts & Sciences Award for Research and Scholarly Activity
Dr. Adam Holley of the Department of Physics receives the 2021-2022 College of Arts & Sciences Award for Research and Scholarly Activity. This award recognizes a significant research publication or creative project appearing during the previous two years and receiving expert critical review. Dr. Holley is recognized for measuring the neutron lifetime with record-breaking precision that has potentially far-reaching consequences for our understanding of the Universe.

Mark Creter Receives College of Arts & Sciences Award for Innovative Teaching
Professor Mark Creter of the Department of English is the recipient of the 2021-2022 College of Arts & Sciences Award for Innovative Teaching. This award recognizes a recent significant innovation in undergraduate teaching. Mr. Creter is recognized for his use of playwriting in Theater courses. He introduced a playwriting exercise in Introduction to Theater classes and has developed a Fundamentals of Playwriting workshop course that culminates with students’ one-act plays being dramatically read by actors.

Animal Hospital: Margaret Jane Joffrion Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers
Margaret Jane Joffrion’s sculptural weavings arch their spines and bristle like standoffish cats. Joffrion will be presenting her Fibers thesis show Animal Hospital in the Joe L. Evins Gallery at The Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, TN from April 27 – May 10, 2022. A reception will be held on April 30, 2022, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. The gallery will be open Monday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.
In Animal Hospital, Joffrion examines impulses of self-protection and experiences of safety. She weaves cloth using cotton, silk, wool, elastic, crepe, and metallic yarns. Please attend Animal Hospital to experience the defensive attitudes, textural allure, and sculptural embodiment of these works.

Lil’ Eagle Camp – TTU Women’s Basketball
Kim Rosamond’s Lil’ Eagle Basketball Camp for girls entering kindergarten to 8th grade will be June 8-10 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day. The cost is $115 per camper. Campers must register online at: Lil’ Eagle Camp Online Registration.
