Rural Reimagined Creates Website for Jackson County Non-Profit
The Friends of the Charles Ralph Holland Memorial Library (CRHML) is a nonprofit organization that supports the local Jackson County Library by accepting donations, providing volunteers, and encouraging local involvement and support of the library. Rural Reimagined Graduate Assistant Ellie Buckner created a complex Wix site with no charge to the nonprofit—giving the Friends of CRHML a website that served the organization’s needs and reflected their own high-quality work. Susan Randolph, Treasury of the Friends of CRHML, when asked about her opinion on the website, said, “We are very happy with the final product. Everyone loves the website. In fact, we have gotten eight new members and had the biggest book sale yet yesterday!” Ellie’s work has already made an impact for the Friends of CRHML and will continue to do so as more people are drawn to the website. Earth Sciences Wins the 43rd Annual GeoConclave
Tennessee Tech Earth Sciences students won Tennessee’s 43rd annual GeoConclave! Tennessee Tech students also placed first in the Rock Bowl!
The event took place this past weekend at Harrison Bay State Park near Chattanooga. Tennessee Tech students competed against students from Middle Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville and University of Tennessee-Martin. In the 43 years of GeoConclave, Tennessee Tech University students have won 20 times!
Additional congratulations go to the following students: Gabi Burke, 2nd place in Mineral ID; Kaiah Whited, 1st place in Rock ID; E Vigil, 2nd place in Fossil ID; Sydney Beltran, 1st place in Geologic Maps; Ben Lane, 1st place in Hydrogeologic Maps; and Gabi Burke, Kaiah Whited and E Vigil whose team placed 1st in the Rock Bowl! Wow! What a great showing!!! (Not sure who won the hammer toss, but it looks like fun!)
PS – Traditionally, Dr. Wayne Leimer (Professor Emeritus) would purchase a twelve-pack of Mr. Pibb for GeoConclave and the students would share it and take a picture if they won. If they did not win, they had to return the 12-pack to Dr. Leimer. This tradition continues today!

Scholarship Application for 2023-2024 Now Open
The general scholarship application for the 2023-2024 academic year is available now through Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for Tennessee Tech scholarships in the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024 terms.
If you have a renewable departmental scholarship, you have to re-apply every year in order for that scholarship to be renewed!

Calling All Ladies in Civil Engineering who are interested in Structures!
All Ladies in Civil Engineering (ALICE) will host Katie Lewis and Nitaya Chayangkura, structural speakers from Benesch on October 4th from 6pm to 8pm in PRSC 215. All ladies who are majoring in Civil Engineering or who would like to major in Civil Engineering are welcome to attend.
Benesch has been practicing for over 75 years and specializes in bridges, aviation, civil cite development, and railroads. Katie and Nitaya have over 20 years of experience combined and both of a passion for helping communities through designing bridges and other structural components.

SOAR in 8-D
Every aspect of wellness may affect a student’s life. Overall wellness directly relates to a student’s quality of life as well as student success. iMakerSpace Pancake Day with PancakeBot

Surplus Furniture – Foundation Hall Library – Room 250
The furniture currently in Foundation Hall Room 250 will be put on GovDeals starting the week of 10/10. This furniture is available for the campus community to remove and use in campus spaces, not for personal use. Furniture is available on first come, first serve basis. Furniture moves will be at the expense of the department.

Hispanic Heritage Month Film Screening
Golden Eagles! The Women’s Center invites to you to come out and help us celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a free film screening of the film Dolores!
The screening is on Tuesday, September 27th at 6:00 PM in Stonecipher Hall Room 126.
The film follows the life of Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers’ Union with Cesar Chavez. From IMDB, “Dolores Huerta bucks 1950s gender conventions by starting the country’s first farm worker’s union with fellow organizer Cesar Chavez. Employer Expo Job and Internship Fair on September 27!
Don’t miss the single largest career fair ever held on Tennessee Tech’s campus happening Tuesday, September 27 at the Employer Expo Job and Internship Fair! This recruiting event will house over 200 organizations who are actively seeking co-op, internship, and full-time, entry-level positions. Employers will be at the Employer Expo to meet and discuss their employment opportunities with you!
The Employer Expo will be held from 10am to 2pm in the Hooper Eblen Center and ALL Majors are invited to attend. Students will need to enter using either the Arena Level tunnel on McGee Blvd or by entering the main Hooper Eblen Lobby located above the tunnel entrance. Be sure to bring your Eagle Card with you so we can make a personalized nametag for you upon arrival!
Remember, Career Fairs are NO BACKPACK ZONES – please leave your backpack in your car or room!

Volunteers Needed Scrumdiddlyumptious STEM (Willy Wonka) Fab Friday 9/30/2022
Volunteers are needed for a family outreach event on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 4:30 – 8:30 PM at the Oakley STEM Center.
Volunteers will assist with hands-on STEM activities, event logistics, set up, and tear down. The event is open to families & their children ranging from 3rd-8th grade. Please consider taking the time to help and feel free to share this opportunity with others who may be interested.
Also, food and refreshments will be provided for volunteers!

Faculty Achievements Database
Have you heard about Tennessee Tech’s new faculty accomplishments digital database? Faculty Success, by Watermark® (formally known as Digital Measures®), is a new database being adopted by the University to assist with collection and reporting of faculty activities and accomplishments. The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ) is excited to partner with the Faculty Annual Evaluation Working Group, the Office of Research, members of Faculty Senate, and the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Effectiveness, to adopt and implement this system. Faculty and administrators who have had an early look at the system are very excited about the automation of the system and the ease in which faculty can now manage their accomplishments and activities. The implementation team is looking for early adopters across multiple departments. Any non-tenure track, tenure-track, or tenured faculty, interested in working with the team to test out the database should submit your information here by September 30th.
