Group Work Faculty Panel
Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning on Tuesday, September 27th at 11 am for our next workshop, a faculty panel on Group Work. Group activities can support social, teaching, and cognitive presences in both on-campus and online learning environments. In this session, a panel of TnTech faculty members will share their techniques for effectively using group work in their courses. The panel and CITL staff will be available for questions. Thesis/Dissertation Workshop
The Writing Excellence Studio at Tech (WEST) will be holding a workshop for all graduate students who are required to submit a thesis or dissertation. The workshop will be held on September 27 at 10 AM in Derryberry auditorium. Representatives from Graduate Studies will be there to answer specific questions students may have. Help Us Teach Social Engineering and Cyber-safe Practices Better
98% of Cyber Attacks involve some form of Social Engineering. Do you feel safe? Dr. Denis Ulybyshev and Master’s Candidate David Feier are looking to potentially hold a seminar or training in Social Engineering and Software Security. However, we need your help to know what material to cover. If you would like to help us learn more about how well Tennessee Tech students and employees know about Social Engineering and Software Security, we have a brief survey (23-30 minutes) you can complete to assist us. The results may be used to structure a course or a training seminar that will be released during Cyber Awareness Month (October). Furthermore, survey results may be used to justify the need for developing tools and methodologies for software vulnerability management in automatic and continuous mode.

Purple Career Readiness PART TWO Workshop on September 22!
Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, September 22, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (2nd floor) for this Purple Career Readiness PART TWO Workshop! This workshop will feature Regions Bank, who will provide insight regarding how to plan a successful budget while starting your career!
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts toward Part Two of the Purple Career Readiness application for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.

22 a Day Memorial
September is Suicide Awareness Month. Tech’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs would like to bring awareness to the national statistic, which states that, on average, 22 veterans commit suicide every day. This Thursday, September 22, 2022, from 11:00am – 1:30pm, we will have a memorial set up in Centennial Plaza to honor individuals who have become a part of this statistic. We encourage everyone to stop by. If you know someone you would like to memorialize, you may add their name to our memorial board. In addition, we will have information available on suicide prevention provided by Veterans Affairs and the TN Tech Counseling Center. For questions, contact lnotman@tntech.edu.

First IMPACT TTU Meeting Fall 2022
The first IMPACT TTU meeting of the semester will be on Thursday, October 13th at 11am in Bartoo Hall, Room 117! Come to the first meeting to learn about IMPACT TTU, service projects you can get involved in, and to run for an officer position. IMPACT TTU is a student organization which welcomes students from all majors and disciplines to make positive impacts and build community, directly stemming from IMPACT Cookeville. Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Susan Olmsted, Vanderbilt University
This week in the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar, our speaker, Susan Olmsted from Vanderbilt University, will present a very different approach to answering the same “Big Questions” we heard about last week. Susan uses a high energy particle collider — the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) — to search for the existence of a never-before-seen particle. In her talk Search for Heavy Gauge Bosons Decaying to Tau Leptons using Vector Boson Fusion Processes in Proton-proton Collisions at CMS, Susan will introduce the LHC, how the discovery of a new particle would help answer fundamental questions about the universe, and she will present details about her particular search. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210. (Snacks will be served starting at 3:30pm.) These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! For questions, contact aholley@tntech.edu.

Employer Expo Job and Internship Fair is next Tuesday, Sept. 27
Don’t miss the single largest career fair ever held on Tennessee Tech’s campus happening next Tuesday, September 27 at the Employer Expo Job and Internship Fair! This recruiting event will house over 200 organizations who are actively seeking co-op, internship, and full-time, entry-level positions. Employers will be at the Employer Expo to meet and discuss their employment opportunities with you!
The Employer Expo will be held from 10am to 2pm in the Hooper Eblen Center and ALL Majors are invited to attend. Students will need to enter using either the Arena Level tunnel on McGee Blvd or by entering the main Hooper Eblen Lobby located above the tunnel entrance. Be sure to bring your Eagle Card with you so we can make a personalized nametag for you upon arrival!
Remember, Career Fairs are NO BACKPACK ZONES – please leave your backpack in your car or room!

ASME Student Section Meeting – September 22
Join TN Tech’s ASME Student Section as we host an internship/Co-Op/research show-and-tell session during our next meeting on September 22! We will open the floor to anyone who has completed an internship or Co-Op, been involved in undergraduate research, or worked on campus to share about their experiences in a friendly, low-pressure environment. This will be a wonderful opportunity to highlight the value of these experiences and give you a chance to ask questions if you are interested in pursuing one yourself.
Our meeting will be at 11:00 am (dead hour) in Brown 315 and is open to any engineering-related major. If you have had an internship, Co-Op, or research experience, or are even remotely interested in pursuing one of these positions, we highly encourage you to attend. Bring a friend or three. (There will also be free pizza!)
