Tennessee Tech Physics Students Win National Recognition
The Tennessee Tech chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has won an Outstanding Chapter Award from the SPS National Office. The chapter has been recognized for its excellence as a top-tier student-led physical sciences organization, a designation given to fewer than 10 percent of all SPS chapters at colleges and universities in the world.
Tennessee Tech’s SPS chapter is advised by Professor Adam Holley and is led by student officers. The 2022-2023 officers are Mateo Cacheiro, Ethan White and Michael Potts (physics majors), and Emma Krebs (math major).
Dr. Holley stated, “This recognition is a high honor for Tennessee Tech University and for science achievement at the higher education level in Tennessee!”

Deadline to request Spring Showcase Materials
Spring Showcase, an event for Fall ’24 admitted students, will take place Saturday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, March 2. If you need printed or digital materials updated or created for these events, please submit your request on the Creative Services project form located at https://www.tntech.edu/ocm/creative-request.php. The deadline for submitting requests is Friday, Feb. 2.

Rural Reimagined Faculty Grants Awards within the College of Arts and Sciences
Congratulations to Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant award recipients! We especially want to recognize faculty award winners from the College of Arts and Sciences including Helen Hunt (English) for her proposal “Plenty of Book Nooks: Supporting Literacy Through Community Spaces,” Kyle Murphy (Chemistry) for his proposal “Sustainable Organocatalysts for Degradation of PET Microplastics Along the Tennessee River,” and Troy D. Smith for his proposal “Tennessee Rural Crime Digital Project.”
Way to go all award recipients and the Center for Rural Innovation for supporting projects that bring innovation and change to rural Tennessee communities!

Tech Basketball Hosts Southeast Missouri in Doubleheader
Your Golden Eagles will be competing at the Hooper Eblen Center on Saturday, January 13 as they host the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State. The women’s game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. followed by the men’s at 3:00 p.m.
It’s We Back Pat Day! Pat Summitt was widely known for her success as a head women’s basketball coach at Tennessee coaching 38 seasons with an overall record of 1,098-208. Join us in honoring the late Pat Summitt in her fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
There will also be a special performance by the Capshaw Jump Rope team at halftime of the women’s game! All Tech students receive FREE admission to home events!

AVP of Facilities and Business Services
We are excited to announce that Mr. Dan Warren has been appointed as the AVP of Facilities & Business Services. Dan started working at Tech 8 years ago as a project manager in Capital Projects and then moved to Facilities Engineer. Prior to coming to Tech, Dan worked as a maintenance and reliability engineer at Arnold Air Force Base. Dan has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tennessee Tech and a master’s degree in engineering management from the University of TN .
Dan has served as interim AVP for Facilities during our two most recent searches for an AVP for Facilities. Please join us in welcoming Dan into his new role as AVP for Facilities.

Building Closures for Holiday Break
The University Police would like to remind everyone that all campus buildings will be secured on Thursday, December 21st at the end of business day until Tuesday, January 2nd when offices re-open from the Holiday break. Individuals needing access to the buildings during this time can contact University Police at 931-372-3234 and officers will be happy to assist.
Those needing access will be required to present a photo ID to the Officers.

2023 Spirit Squad Youth Cheer Clinic
Your Golden Eagle Spirit Squad is hosting a youth clinic this Saturday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m.
The clinic is open to kids in grades K-6 and costs $50 to participate. Participants will learn three gameday cheers and a routine from the TTU Spirit Squad! All participants will receive pom poms, autographs, photos with Awesome Eagle, and one youth ticket to attend the men’s basketball game at 3:00 p.m. Each participant will have the opportunity to perform on the court during the basketball game with TTU cheerleaders and dancers.
All participants should arrive at the Athletic Wellness Center (AWC) with a parent/guardian to complete registration by 11:15 a.m.
