    Calling All Ladies in Civil Engineering! ALICE and DBIA Joint Meeting 

    All Ladies in Civil Engineering (ALICE) and Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) will be joint meeting on Thursday, March 23, at 11:00 am in PRSC 330. All ladies who are majoring in Civil Engineering or who would like to major in Civil Engineering are welcome to attend. There will be a guest speaker, Jamie Waller from TDOT, giving a presentation.     The Tennessee Tech Speech and Debate Team presents our semi-annual Showcase Debate.

    On March 1st, starting at 6 pm, in the RUC Tech Pride Room, our esteemed members will be debating the topic “Should President Biden declare gun violence a National emergency?”

    Effective Presentations

    Being able to give an effective presentation and gaining confidence at public speaking are skills that will carry over into classes and career. Come to this Eagle Works workshop to learn best practices for pitches and presentations, and also find out what NOT to do! This session will help prepare you for the Eagle Works pitches and will be useful no matter what you do in the future.

    This workshop will be Wednesday, March 1, at 5 p.m. in the iMakerspace. FREE PIZZA!

    The iMakerspace is on the third floor of Volpe Library. Use the north staircase (past the MyTECH helpdesk) to access. If you need an accessible entrance, please email Andrea at akruszka@tntech.edu before 4:30 p.m. that day to arrange.

    Join AIAA and ASME for a virtual guest speaker event. AIAA and ASME will be co-hosting Mr. Jim Cavera, a senior test engineer at Blue Origin. The event will be March 2nd from 11AM to 12PM in Brown Hall room 315. He will speak regarding his engineering career and answer questions about his work at Blue Origin.

    All Ladies in Civil Engineering (ALICE) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will be hosting a Career Fair Preparation event on February 28 from 6-8pm in Prescott 222. All ladies who are majoring in Civil Engineering or who would like to major in Civil Engineering are welcome to attend. Sonja Higgenbotham from Tech’s Center for Career development will be presenting on tips and advice for the upcoming career fair. This will a great opportunity to learn how to connect with employers!

    Eagle Works Prototyping/MVP

    This Wednesday, take the next step in getting ready for Eagle Works by hearing all about prototyping and minimum viable products. Part of the Eagle Works competition is a tradeshow, and having something created that shows off your idea makes you stand out! Hear from a Maker Member about all the different things available in the iMakerspace and how to get access, then one of the directors in the iCube will talk about app development. Finally, we’ll go over some of the options in Canva to create professional looking mockups for your presentation.

    Workshop starts at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
