  • Cornerstone Government Affairs to Give Appropriations Presentation

    Representatives from Cornerstone will be on campus on Thursday, January 27, to give a brief presentation on the Federal Appropriations Process.  The presentation will take place in the Derryberry Hall Auditorium  at 11:00 and is open to all.

  • Upcoming Office of Research Events

    Friday, Jan 21, at 3:00 – There will be an open forum with Dr. Jennifer Taylor, VP for Research, for anyone that would like to discuss matters within the Office of Research.  The event will take place in Derryberry Hall 200.

    Thursday, Jan 27, at 11:00 – Representatives from Cornerstone Government Affairs Group will be giving a presentation on the Federal Appropriation Process in the Derryberry Hall Auditorium.  The event is open to all.

  • Faculty Research Committee Announces Call for Proposals for 2021-22

    The Faculty Research Committee is soliciting proposals for funding for 2021-22.  The deadline to submit proposals and all required application materials to the Office of Research is Feb. 25, 2022. Materials may be submitted electronically via email to jdicey@tntech.edu  or hand delivered to Derryberry Hall, Room 305.     Student Research and Creative Inquiry Day set for April 20-21, 2022

    Research and Creative Inquiry Day is an annual event designed to promote undergraduate and graduate student research and creative inquiry and provide a venue for presenting that work. The 17th annual event will be held in person from April 20 to 21, 2022, in the Hooper Eblen Center.

    The abstract submission portal will be open from Wed., Feb. 2, through Wed., March 9. Abstract guidelines can be found on the Office of Research  website at https://www.tntech.edu/research/research-day/index.php.

    Additional event information will be sent out in the spring, but we wanted to give you an opportunity to start thinking about your submission early.

    New for this event, we will be collaborating with the Center for Career Development to offer students a resumé-critiquing opportunity from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, April 21, and several potential employers will be invited to the general poster viewing session that day to provide students valuable networking opportunities.

    Please share this information with your students and consider including information related to Research and Creative Inquiry Day, as appropriate, in your spring course syllabi. Faculty will receive an email at the beginning of the spring semester providing additional event information and inviting you to participate as a Research and Creative Inquiry Day judge.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Kaitlyn Kidwell, TTU Physics

    This week in the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar, physics major Kaitlyn Kidwell will present on her work studying a potential background in experiments that search for neutrinoless double beta decay in germanium. In her talk Neutron Inelastic Scattering of 76Ge Coincidence Analysis, Kaitlyn will describe the experiment she conducted this summer on the Duke University campus at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory and her ongoing work analyzing the resulting coincidence gamma ray spectra. The seminar will be this Friday, November 5th at 4pm in Volpe Library 248. It will be geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!   • Pre-proposals for NSF MRI funding due Nov. 12 to Office of Research

    The National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation funding is a limited submission program that increases access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training. An MRI award supports the acquisition or development of a multi-user research instrument that is, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs.

    Tennessee Tech may submit or be included as a significantly funded subawardee in no more than three MRI proposals. Therefore, a pre‐proposal is required to be submitted by all interested faculty and an internal review conducted to determine which proposals will be submitted to NSF.     Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar this week: J. Dittert, Z. Hinchman, B. Long

    This week in the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar, we’ll hear from three engineering majors who will describe their work helping to develop an on-campus ion beam laboratory. In his talk Designing an Ion Beam Laboratory and Ion Source, Braden Long, a Civil Engineering major, will describe his efforts to devise an effective layout for the main components of the beam line in the limited space available. Mechanical Engineering majors Jackson Dittert and Zachary Hinchman will then discuss their design for one of the beam line components in their talk Designing a Laser Ablation Ion Source.The seminar will be this Friday, October 22nd at 4pm in Volpe Library 248. It will be geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!     The following researchers in university administration have been inducted into the 2020-2021 Wings Up 100.

    The 2020-2021 Wings Up 100 roster is an elite group of 38 Tech researchers who brought in at least $100,000 in external funding for their research and activities during 2020-2021.
