  • Encourage Students to Apply for 2023-2024 Scholarships

    The general TN Tech Scholarship Application for the 2023-2024 academic year is available now through Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for Tennessee Tech scholarships in the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024 terms. Due to the wide variety of scholarships available, it is in every student’s best interest to complete their scholarship application every year.

    The Scholarship Office encourages campus offices and departments to help remind students to apply for scholarships. Please print and/or distribute the 2023-2024 Scholarship Application Flier in your area as needed. Digital signs should become available to digital sign managers soon. Students can be directed to www.tntech.edu/scholarships/apply for instructions.

    We greatly appreciate your partnership in spreading the word to all students on campus!

    Cognitive Load Workshop (Replay)

    Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 4th, for our next workshop, Cognitive Load. Cognitive load relates to the amount of information that working memory can hold simultaneously. Instruction methods should avoid overwhelming students’ mental capacities and focus on retention practices.   • Earth Sciences Wins the 43rd Annual GeoConclave

    Earth Sciences Wins the 43rd Annual GeoConclave

    Tennessee Tech Earth Sciences students won Tennessee’s 43rd annual GeoConclave! Tennessee Tech students also placed first in the Rock Bowl!

    The event took place this past weekend at Harrison Bay State Park near Chattanooga. Tennessee Tech students competed against students from Middle Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville and University of Tennessee-Martin. In the 43 years of GeoConclave, Tennessee Tech University students have won 20 times!

    Additional congratulations go to the following students: Gabi Burke, 2nd place in Mineral ID; Kaiah Whited, 1st place in Rock ID; E Vigil, 2nd place in Fossil ID; Sydney Beltran, 1st place in Geologic Maps; Ben Lane, 1st place in Hydrogeologic Maps; and Gabi Burke, Kaiah Whited and E Vigil whose team placed 1st in the Rock Bowl! Wow! What a great showing!!! (Not sure who won the hammer toss, but it looks like fun!)

    PS – Traditionally, Dr. Wayne Leimer (Professor Emeritus) would purchase a twelve-pack of Mr. Pibb for GeoConclave and the students would share it and take a picture if they won. If they did not win, they had to return the 12-pack to Dr. Leimer. This tradition continues today!

  • Scholarship Application for 2023-2024 Now Open

    The general scholarship application for the 2023-2024 academic year is available now through Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for Tennessee Tech scholarships in the Fall 2023, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024 terms.

    If you have a renewable departmental scholarship, you have to re-apply every year in order for that scholarship to be renewed!

    Every aspect of wellness may affect a student’s life. Overall wellness directly relates to a student’s quality of life as well as student success. Join the counseling center Wednesdays beginning  October 5 as we SOAR into the 8 dimensions of wellness. We will learn about  tips for positive wellness that align with the eight dimensions of overall well-being.   • Faculty Achievements Database

    Have you heard about Tennessee Tech’s new faculty accomplishments digital database? Faculty Success, by Watermark® (formally known as Digital Measures®), is a new database being adopted by the University to assist with collection and reporting of faculty activities and accomplishments. The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ) is excited to partner with the Faculty Annual Evaluation Working Group, the Office of Research, members of Faculty Senate, and the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Effectiveness, to adopt and implement this system. Faculty and administrators who have had an early look at the system are very excited about the automation of the system and the ease in which faculty can now manage their accomplishments and activities. The implementation team is looking for early adopters across multiple departments. Any non-tenure track, tenure-track, or tenured faculty, interested in working with the team to test out the database should submit your information here by September 30th.

    Group Work Faculty Panel

    Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning on Tuesday, September 27th at 11 am for our next workshop, a faculty panel on Group Work. Group activities can support social, teaching, and cognitive presences in both on-campus and online learning environments. In this session, a panel of TnTech faculty members will share their techniques for effectively using group work in their courses.
