Submissions for Tennessee Tech’s very own student-edited literary magazine, the Iris Review, are open Feb. 1-15. Whether you make poems, prose, or visual art, go to our website to learn how to send us your work for publication. Printed each spring, the Iris Review is open to writers and artists of any experience level and can serve as a great starting ground for getting your work out there. The Artistss in Residence at the Appalachian Center for Craft cordially invite you to the opening reception for “In Tandem,” which will be held on Friday, February 21st, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

If you’ve ever been curious about printmaking, this workshop is the perfect way to dive in! Linocut printing is a technique that creates printed images from carving a block of linoleum. Students will learn how to use carving tools and print with both a press and by hand. Carve your own block, make several prints, and learn how to continue making linocuts at home! The Cattywampus Puppet Council exhibition at the Joan Derryberry Gallery opens Thursday, January 16th. This exhibit will be on view through February 20th with a closing artist talk at 11am on February 20th. Cattywampus Puppet Council is a 501c3 community-based arts organization and an intergenerational collective of artists, performers, teachers, musicians, and community organizers. Over the past 10 years, they have been bringing innovative theater, youth programming, people-powered parades, and giant puppet magic to communities across East Tennessee and the South, collaborating with a wide range of organizations, artists, and institutions including: the Knoxville Museum of Art, UT School of Art, the Knox County Public Library, Big Ears Festival, the Johnson City Public Art Committee, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and most recently Yo-Yo Ma.

School of Art, Craft & Design Professor of glass, Damon MacNaught, has work accepted into the international juried contemporary fine craft exhibition, Craft Forms 2024 at the Wayne Arts Center in Wayne, Pennsylvania, December 7th, 2024-January 25th, 2025.  MacNaught’s glass work “Art of Science” will be on exhibit alongside  works in all mediums created by 101 artists from around the world.

Cathy Richardson, visiting artist working in glass, will be delivering a slide lecture about her work Thursday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. in AV 1 at  Appalachian Center for Craft.  Please join us to learn more about Richardson’s vacuum encased glass sculptures and her career in glass.

November 18 – December 1, 2024, the Silver Fern on Spring St. will be exhibiting, Make.Do.3., a group exhibition by TN Tech students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program in the School of Art, Craft & Design. The artwork will be displayed in the Fiddlehead Room Gallery. The show opens on Friday, November 22nd with a reception open to the public at 5 p.m.

Make.Do.3., showcases student’s work from a variety of craft, including wood, ceramic, glass, metals, and painting. The exhibition showcases the full range of Tennessee Tech students’ talents, from blown glass to fine wood furniture.

Join Lilith Strider at the opening of her thesis exhibition on Nov. 21 at the Appalachian Center for Craft’s Hilltop Gallery.  Exhibition of senior thesis artwork by Lilith as a Metal’s concentration student in the School of Art, Craft, and Design. The public is invited to an opening reception on Nov. 23 from 4-7pm.
