Body Politic: A Collaborative Print Series
The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery presents Body Politic, a collaborative print series by Tonja Torgerson and Christa Carleton. Together they challenge the conventional views that beleaguer gender roles through the figurative nude. “Our prints resist outdated mindsets about performing femininity and question widespread notions about the role and standing of female-expressing people.” The exhibition opens Feb. 13 and concludes with a gallery talk and reception March 23 at 4:30 p.m. in the Roaden University Center 124. Jason Stein is inspired by the textures and forms of the geological structures and surfaces that occur, drawn to the subtleties found in such hard and unforgiving materials and landscapes. Stein highlights the juxtapositions and states of conflict and interplays between disparate elements. This chaotic and intense process of alchemy and creation gives birth to new forms. The result is finished works that speak to the visual and conceptual framework of control, hidden systems, and structures, manipulation, and transformation.
Jason Stein received a BFA in Metals and Jewelry Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2008 and received MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University in 2010. He taught at Central Piedmont Community College from 2017-2021. He completed artist residencies at Penland in 2020, Peters Valley in 2021, and Pocosin in 2022.

Jennifer Crupi Sculptural Jewelry Exhibition
The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery will be hosting a gallery talk and reception for metalsmith Jennifer Crupi on Feb. 9, at 4:30 p.m. in the Roaden University Center 124. Her sculptural jewelry series delicately captures the intimate relationship between communication and body language. “These handcrafted, interactive objects point out various gestures or postures and their associated meanings, in the hope viewers will realize the importance of how our bodies speak for us.” This event is funded by Center Stage. Visual Art Society Holiday Sale!!
Get unique, handmade gifts this holiday season at Tennessee Tech University’s Visual Art Society annual sale.
The society is a student organization of artists from Tennessee Tech’s Appalachian Center for Craft that provides emerging artists opportunities to present, promote and sell their artwork before becoming professionals. Proceeds from the sale support student travel to national conferences and to host visiting artists.
The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 1-2 in Tennessee Tech s Joan Derryberry Art Gallery. Pieces from all five of the Craft Center’s studios ceramics, fiber, glass, metal and wood will be for sale.
The Derryberry Art Gallery is on the first floor of Tennessee Tech s Roaden University Center, 1000 N. Dixie Ave.

Memento: Anna Grayson Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metals
A thesis exhibition by Anna Grayson to be on display at the Appalachian Center for Craft. The show is to be exhibited in the Lakeview Gallery from November 23 – December 6, 2022. The exhibition features a wide range of works centering on the stigma surrounding all things death and dying.
“Death is something we all face at some point in our life so why is it that we have made it into such a sensitive subject? Life and death are two sides of the same coin.” says Grayson
