The String Project at Tennessee Tech will present its Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00pm in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts Building. Please join us for this free concert as we present our progress over the past year! Our four student orchestras will perform as well as our new Honors String Quartet and some of our small classes will also highlight their progress. String Project is a collaboration between the School of Music at Tech and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra as a way to bring our string community together here in Cookeville! We have beginners all the way through advanced students from 3rd through 12th grades and even Adult Beginners! Our program gives Tech School of Music string students a truly unique experience by getting hands-on experience teaching our String Project students with involvement from faculty mentors. “Chimera”:  Millie Hall Senior Thesis Exhibition

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting

Join Millie Hall at the opening of her senior thesis exhibition in painting. The show opens on April 23, 2024 and the reception will be held on May 5, 2024 at 5 pm. Come for snacks and art in the Brian Fine Arts building at Tennessee Tech University.

In her work, Millie focuses on internal worlds and how they manifest to affect our outer lives. She uses psychological space and animal metaphors to explore the development and growth of the mind as it grapples with the pain of betrayal.

Center Stage Guest Artist Nani Agbeli, renowned Ghanaian drummer and dancer, joins the TTU West African Drumming Ensemble for an evening of traditional Ewe drum and dance on Saturday, April 20th at 7:30pm in Wattenbarger Auditorium.  Nani is highly regarded for his performances that showcase his energy, precision, and athleticism.  His family, known for their excellence in drumming, dancing, arts, culture, and history, originates from the Volta region of Ghana, West Africa.  This concert is free and open to the public. Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dual Focus

From April 18-29 the Appalachian Center for Craft will be showcasing the Dual Focus of Graphic Design and Metals exhibition by Jillian Warner.  The work will be displayed in the Critique Room, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Going Through the Motions” features four painted metal pieces that when their shadows are cast tell a story of a person’s inner turmoil.  Join us in the experience of emotions and how they affect all of us with metal pieces cut, assembled and graffiti painted on designed artwork.

“When I Was Young”:  Alayna Motz Senior Thesis Exhibition

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dual Focus

From April 4-16 the Appalachian Center for Craft will be showing When I Was Young, a solo exhibition by Alayna Motz.  The work will be displayed in the Lakeview Gallery, Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 12–5 p.m., reception on April 14 from 12-3 p.m.

“When I Was Young”, is Alayna’s work from the past year as an artist creating work in textiles and graphic design. The work showcases tapestry crochet, quilts, and weavings. Creating a safe space for everyone’s inner child and nostalgic objects and feelings from her childhood.

“Come September”:  Matdeline Phillips Senior Thesis Exhibition

Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers

From April 4-16 the Appalachian Center for Craft will be showing Come September, a solo exhibition by Matdeline Phillips.  The work will be displayed in the Hilltop Gallery, Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 12–5 p.m., reception on April 14 from 12-3 p.m.

Come September, is showcases Matdeline’s work from the past year as she worked her way through her senior year. The work showcases a variety of hand dyed materials, quilted into an array of pieces, that seem to shower an assortment of marine life onto the viewer.

Gallery talk and reception for artist Lisa Turner, Thursday, March 21, 5:00 p.m. in the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery in the Roaden University Center.  Hear the artist share her thoughts, inspirations and techniques involved in her body of work, Bodily Impressions, which features a variety of printmaking techniques.

This free public event features live jazz, bluegrass and string quartet music, kids’ activities, food trucks, a silent auction and craft sales. In addition, studios will be open to the public, offering demonstrations in blacksmithing, metals, glass, clay, wood and fiber.
