The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) continues to provide support to faculty and departments during the campus transition to delivery of online and alternative delivery of courses. The CITL can advise you on course redesign and development and how to better leverage technology and other educational tools to engage and retain students. The Center can also provide ideas on alternative assessment of student learning outcomes within an online learning environment. The CITL staff, including your College’s or School’s dedicated Online Instructional Designer, are available Monday through Friday 8-4:30 through consultations by phone (931) 372-6950, via iLearn Help Email, or through Virtual Consultations. You can also Email the Center directly as we continuously monitor the CITL Email and respond promptly throughout the day. The CITL also provides frequent updates to the COVID-19 Faculty FAQs related to instruction in an online learning environment.
The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) announces its last Tech Teaches workshop for the spring semester. Dr. Sandi Smith-Andrews will provide a final workshop in her Online Teaching Series on Thursday, April 9th from 3:00-4:30 pm via Zoom. The focus of this workshop is on Assessments and Rubrics. In response to the difficulties applicants are facing in scheduling Graduate School Entrance Exams, the College of Graduate Studies, in agreement with all graduate programs, is waiving the entrance exam requirements (GRE, MAT, GMAT) for summer and fall 2020. Applicants are still required to meet all other program specific admissions requirements. This move will alleviate some of the stress applicants are experiencing as they try to plan for their future. The Center for Career Development is currently operating on a modified operation schedule. Students can still make appointments, have their resumes critiqued and search for job opening through Handshake. In addition, all student appointments are currently being handled via phone or Zoom.

SPAN 1010 (3 credits) will be offered this summer.
Dates: SPAN 1010= 6/1/2020 – 7/2/2020
Meeting: 100% Online
We will learn basic vocabulary and grammar and begin to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to be able to communicate in the Spanish language. We will also identify common beliefs and cultural practices in the Spanish-speaking world. Course activities will consist of reading, videos, asynchronous conversations, grammar exercises, and quizzes.
Taking this class and the SPAN 1020 class offered will also fulfill foreign language requirements you may have for your BA degree!

TN Tech’s Rural Reimagined is proud to announce that Emily Buckner, a Human Resources major, has accepted an internship with the Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) and the Human Resources Agency (UCHRA). Through the internship, Emily will use her organizational and communication skills to collaborate on-site with UCDD’s leadership to identify and develop internships within the organization. This internship is a great way for Emily to become involved with Rural Reimagined and to gain real-world experience, while it will also create RR internships for other students in the future! UCDD’s Rebecca Smith states, “We are delighted about this new phase of our partnership with Tennessee Tech and look forward to creating new opportunities for students to further their education through hands-on learning.” She adds, “Collaboration through the Rural Reimagined Grand Challenge will make it possible for our agencies to recruit and develop highly qualified employees who are passionate about excellence and serving others.” Regarding her internship, Emily states, “This opportunity is not only going to benefit me in using my skills in a real-world environment but in return, I will be helping my fellow colleagues in their professional lives, one of the main goals I have for my career!” Stay tuned for updates on Rural Reimagined. March, 2019 marks one year of partnership between Rural Reimagined (RR) and the Professional & Technical Communication (PTC) program in the English department. Regarding her program’s involvement, Dr. Kristin Pickering states, “Rural Reimagined is an excellent experience for students, especially through our required PTC internships. It gives students opportunities to work with the University and the community and see how their degree skills, such as grant writing, technical writing, and communication, can be utilized.” One PTC graduate and past RR intern, Matt Billings, states, “My opportunities from Rural Reimagined, coupled with my learned skills in the English PTC Program, undoubtedly gave me professional experience for my current career.” Similarly, PTC graduate Kinsey Potter states, “Working with Rural Reimagined has allowed me to utilize my PTC skills in real life. I now see that communication has a strong capability to make a change.” Matt now has a job at the Upper Cumberland Development District, and Kinsey is working on her M.A. while continuing as the RR graduate assistant. Dr. Pickering encourages students and faculty to become involved, as she states, “We have seen so much success so far in this partnership. No matter what interests students have, they can find a place in Rural Reimagined.” Wings up, Dr. Pickering and the PTC Program!
Nikki Desch, Adjunct Faculty in Dept. of Exercise Science will receive The Impact People Award, Richmond, VA, April 26, 2020, a master black belt humanities award, for Empowering Women, Teaching leadership and respect to others to all races. Master of Humanity Belt (6th degree Black Belt) stands for life and peace and promoting good will in martial Arts, Women Violence Abuse Programs, and Up Lifting and Empowering Women. Nikki has been an instructor in the Exercise Science department since January 2010. She teaches Self-Defense for Women, Samurai Sword, Tai Chi/Qigong, Kick Boxing and Kempojutsu. She has studied martial arts in the United States and Asia for over thirty years with extensive experience as instructor, coach, judge and competitor. Nikki is a certified Black Belt; Okinawan Karate, Japanese Karate, Chen Tai Chi Senior Instructor. In 2014 she received “Global Impact Woman of the Year” for the Martial Artists Award.”
