The College of Graduate Studies is providing new student orientation online through iLearn. All new graduate students have the Student Orientation module added to their iLearn account. New graduate students are encouraged to login to iLearn prior to the start of the semester in order to complete orientation prior to the start of classes. Career Development Announces Updates to Career Readiness Programs
The Center for Career Development announces that the GOLD and PURPLE Career Readiness Certification programs have been re-designed and expanded for Fall 2021. Based mostly on the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Career Competencies and George Kuh’s high impact practices, the programs designs are to help students identify where their skills are being developed and how to better communicate those skills to employers on resumes and during interviews

Call for Proposals for Open Educational Resources (OERs) grant for faculty
TnTech has received a $30,000 TBR grant to increase equity in access to quality, no/low-cost educational materials. The grant money will help train faculty and provide a faculty stipend ($2700) for transitioning courses from traditional textbooks to using OERs (Open Educational Resources.) Faculty interested in receiving this grant-sponsored training and stipend to switch their course from a traditional textbook to free OERs need to submit an application proposal by June 30, 2021.

Affordable Textbook Options for Your Students
Learn how to save your students money with textbook affordability options through the library, bookstore, and OERs (Open Educational Resources). The best time to implement this is while you are creating or updating a course. However, it may also be possible to save your students money without switching textbooks.

Graduation Application Deadlines for Graduate Students
The College of Graduate Studies has established new graduation application deadlines beginning Fall 2021. Graduate students need to apply for fall graduation by June 1. Students anticipating graduating in Spring 2022 will need to apply by September 1, 2021. Summer semester applications are required by January 1.

Submit Summer & Fall Bookorders
The semester is quickly coming to an end. If you have not turned in your Summer or Fall book orders please do so before you leave for the summer.
The Bookstore has a new order submission site, AIP (Adoption & Insight Portal). It can be found on your Tech Express. It is the a green box with a book icon and says “BN AIP”. Plan your course with textbook affordability in mind!
The library has created a Textbook Affordability website: https://www.tntech.edu/library/textbooks/index.php. This page is for faculty to learn the options to save students money. The website includes options related to the library, free OERs (Open Educational Resources), and the bookstore. The library is available for individual help so faculty members can find the best option for their students.

Zoe Dennis receives Kurt Eisen Excellence in Liberal Arts Award
Zoe Dennis, a senior double major in History and Political Science, is the recipient of the Kurt Eisen Excellence in Liberal Arts Award. This is the highest student award given by the Tennessee Tech College of Arts and Sciences. Ms. Dennis is recognized for her excellence in three vital functions of a liberally educated person: (1) critical thinking; (2) context-consciousness; and (3) communication.

Deiter receives CoAS Award for Research and Scholarly Activity
Dr. Kristen Deiter of the Department of English is the recipient of the 2020-2021 College of Arts & Sciences Award for Research and Scholarly Activity. This award recognizes a significant research publication or creative project appearing during the previous two years and receiving expert critical review. Dr. Deiter is recognized for her paper, “Recasting and Refashioning the Tower of London in Milton’s Eikonoklastes and Paradise Lost,” published in the journal The Seventeenth Century in 2020.
