From sci-fi thrillers to everyday life, AI is always there in background life – to Google search to Siri to Amazon Echo to medical diagnostics to e-commerce. And then, there are drones and self-driving cars, and the meta verse. In this talk, Jason Thacker will help us understand how digital technology shapes everything about our lives, including how we view God, ourselves, and the world around us.

  • Budget Office – Upcoming Deadlines & Training

    All current estimate budget revisions are due to the Budget Office by March 10th. All academic units should have their budget revisions submitted to the Provost’s Office for final approval by March 7th.

    Budget Office training sessions for March have also been scheduled if anyone is interested! Below is a brief description of each training:

    General Budget Training: This training gives a big picture overview of the university budget, Banner screens, and budget revisions. This training is required for signature authority on budget revisions.

    Budget Banner Screen Training: This training focuses specifically on the Banner screens frequently used for budgeting purposes. This is an optional training course.

    Budget Shadow System Training: This training focuses specifically on our Shadow System Template. This is an optional training course.

    Position Control Budget Training: This training focuses specifically on topics related to position control including new position set ups, personnel action forms, budget revisions for permanent positions, how to verify permanent position funding, lapsed salary, etc. This is an optional training course.

    Money Maker$pace is a hands-on event for Pre-K through 3rd grade to gain knowledge on financial literacy. Financial literacy is the foundation of your relationship with money, and it is a lifelong journey of learning!

    Safari Saturdays are free workshops in hands-on science and math for young learners (PreK-3rd graders) and their families.

    A parent/guardian must remain with the student/students regardless of age.

    May Graduates your cap & gown is now available for pick up. Distribution will begin with Grad Fair/Senior Salute in the Multipurpose Room, 2nd floor of the University Center, on the following dates.

    Tuesday, March 1st 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
    Wednesday, March 2nd 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

    If you are unable to attend Grad Fair/Senior Salute you will be able to pick up your cap & gown in the University Store beginning Monday, March 7th  through graduation. University Store hours are Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM; Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM; Sunday CLOSED

  • Cyber Threats – Shields Up!

    With geopolitical tensions increasing, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has issued a bulletin recommending all organizations to be especially vigilant during this time. Cyber threats are a common component in multi-front attacks, and universities are equally at risk of being the focus for one of these attacks. https://www.cisa.gov/shields-up

    What can you do to help?

    • Keep an eye out for any unexpected or unusual network behavior.
    • Make sure any personal devices are current on their OS and app updates.
    • Scrutinize all emails from senders you do not recognize. (Over 90% of cyber attacks begin with an email.)
    • Report suspicious emails with the Phish Alert button in Outlook (or by forwarding it to abuse@tntech.edu).

    I Heart Tech Students Spotlight: College of Education

    The College of Education seeks support of the P-16 Diversity Partnership through this year’s I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative.

    The Tennessee State Department of Education has mandated a 22% ethnic and racial diversity of our teacher candidates, and the College of Education is also working to increase diversity in the exercise science and psychology student populations. With additional resources, the College can facilitate more campus visits, offer more educational opportunities, and enroll an increased number of diverse students.
