Building Access During Winter Break
During winter break, academic and administrative buildings are locked and require a key or Campus Police to open. To provide greater convenience to the campus community, buildings equipped with exterior electronic access control (card tap locks) will be programmed to allow access to active Faculty and Staff members. You will generally find these locks at the ADA entrance of most buildings. It is important to remember that to use these locks, you must have an up-to-date Eagle Card that supports the tap lock functionality. If you lack an updated card, please visit the Eagle Card office to obtain one. Departments that need to provide access to other users, such as graduate researchers, contractors, etc., will need to provide a list of names and T numbers to the building coordinator. Building coordinators are listed on the Tech website at: https://www.tntech.edu/safety/building-coord.php. All requests must be received by Tuesday, December 20, 2022. The list will also be provided to University Police to provide access to buildings without electronic access control doors, or in case of a card failure.

Voice Mail Upgrade – Campus Wide Planned Outage
The campus voice mail system will be upgraded on Wednesday December 14 beginning at 4:30pm. The upgrade is expected to be completed by 11:00pm. During this time the voice mail system will not be accessible. For questions please email telecom@tntech.edu

ROTC GOLDEN EAGLE BATTALION COMPETES IN BOLD WARRIOR CHALLENGE
Congratulations to the ROTC Golden Eagle Battalion Ranger Challenge Team on their 7th place finish out of 38 schools at this year’s Bold Warrior Challenge at FT Knox, KY.
The Bold Warrior Challenge is a 48-hour competition covering 20 plus miles over 15 events across rugged terrain against top Cadets from across Tennessee, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana for the right to compete at the Sandhurst Competition hosted by the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Your Golden Eagle student-athletes placed ahead of UTK, ETSU, MTSU and Vanderbilt.
Our 11 Cadets (male and female) indeed demonstrated the Golden Eagle drive and determination.

CISE: A summer of research and learning
Tennessee Tech computer science senior Makayla Haggerty has a vision – one that would benefit people with impaired vision.
Sara Owens, a sophomore in the same major, aims to simplify a time-consuming verification task for Python programmers.
Both students had the opportunity to indulge their interests through summer research projects as recipients of the university’s Creative Inquiry Summer Experience grant program.
“It has given me real-life work experience that will help me get a job when I graduate,” Haggerty said of the program, which provides monetary assistance up to $4,000, including a $3,500 stipend, for summer internships that help undergraduate students develop research and creative inquiry skills.

Campus chilled water outage starts Monday, Dec. 12
There will be a campus wide chilled water outage beginning Monday, December 12. This is necessary to modify the distribution system to accommodate several current and future construction projects. At this time of year buildings typically can be cooled using outside air while chilled water is not available.
The December-January timeframe has been chosen to minimize impact. We anticipate chilled water to be restored to most of campus in early January.

Grades Processing Notice
All Fall 2022 grades are due from faculty by 10am on December 12, 2022. As such, Fall 2022 grades processing will be underway from December 12 – December 16. Student grades will be finalized on their record by December 16, 2022.
The Registrar’s Office will be unable to answer questions during the grading period about a grade that an instructor has submitted, repeat courses, GPA, or total earned credits while processing is occurring, even if a grade is showing on the degree audit.
While grades may appear during the grading period as they are periodically processed, your grades, GPA, and any repeated courses will not be finalized until the end of grades processing which will be completed by December 16th.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as the Registrar’s Office diligently works to finalize and complete all student records during this time!

TN TECH STUDENT INFLUENCES THE FUTURE OF AGRIBUSINESS
Rural Reimagined (RR) is excited to spotlight Chris Heflin, a Tennessee Tech student who worked has partnered with AgLaunch to create influential developments in agribusiness. Over the last few months, Chris has constructed visual representations of agricultural data from all over the Southeastern U.S. His visualizations will aid farmers and other agricultural decision-makers in seeing data trends and obtaining information. Regarding his research, Chris said, “Working with Rural Reimagined has allowed me to apply the skills I’ve learned here at Tennessee Tech to real-world problems, which has given me valuable experience as I begin my career.” By combining his skills with his innovative ideas, Chris has made a lasting impact on something he is passionate about. Bursar’s Office Closed Monday, December 12 from 8am to 9am
The Bursar’s Office windows on the first floor of Derryberry Hall will be closed on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 8am to 9am for a staff meeting. Service at the windows, phone calls and bursar email will open for business at 9am.

Food Pantry – Finals Week – Closure
The Food Pantry will be closed December 8, 2022 – January 22, 2023.
During the time we are closed the Auxiliary Pantry will be open any hours the library is open. You may visit the front desk at the library to have access to the Auxiliary Pantry.
Another resource, while the main campus pantry is closed, is God’s Grace Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church. You can call to schedule an appointment with them, 931-526-2177.
We will be fully staffed and opened back up January 23, 2023.

Eagle Drive magazine has landed
Tennessee Tech’s Department of Computer Science has released its 2022 edition of Eagle Drive.
The magazine includes stories about the computer science house system, senior capstone projects, a computer science student who is a world-ranking speedcuber (Rubik’s cube), a faculty member who now works at the National Science Foundation, numerous student and faculty research projects, computer science graduates through the decades and “Tech Twosomes” (married couples who are Tennessee Tech computer science graduates). Plus, there’s a challenge: Can you find all the debugging ducks hidden throughout the magazine?

Fall 2022 Campus-wide Solar System
Need a break from studying for finals? The Introduction to Modern Astronomy I (ASTR 1010) class has created a to-scale model of our solar system that fits on campus! The sun is located in BRUN 243. From there, walk around campus and locate 16 celestial bodies (8 planets, 6 moons, 2 dwarf planets, a comet, and 2 asteroid belts) using the attached map.
