If you would like to join our email list please fill out this form. oSTEM is open to LQBTQ+ students, faculty, staff and allies. Our primary focus is to empower LGBTQ+ and allies in STEM fields but we welcome people from any department or major. L.A.R.P. Club Tournament (Updated)
The L.A.R.P. Club will be hosting its first tournament on Friday September 18th, 2020 @ 3:00 pm in Sherlock Park. Fighting pairs will be randomly assigned and although you and your opponent will use the same weapon, the weapon will also be randomly assigned! Come compete for the chance to test out multiple kinds of weapons and win glory on the battlefield! (Open to all of Tech campus, including faculty, staff, and students!)

Road Closure – Dixie Avenue
Dixie Avenue will be closed beginning Monday, September 21, in front of the University Services Building between 8th Street and 9th Street. This closure, which is necessary to replace underground steam lines, has been coordinated with local authorities and emergency services. The gold Parking Lot south of University Services Building will remain open. This project scheduled completion date is December 20, 2020.

Tech Opts Out of Tax Deferral and Repayment Order
As you may know on Aug 8, President Trump signed an executive order giving employers the option to defer employee social security withholding starting Sept 1 for the remainder of the calendar year. The tax withholding would resume on Jan 1, 2021 and the deferred taxes would begin to be collected at the same time reducing net payroll amounts for Jan through April 2021.
After thorough examination and consideration, it has been decided that Tennessee Tech will not participate in this tax deferral and repayment program. TN state government including all the public higher education institutions have also elected to “opt-out”.

SEDS Meeting
On Wednesday September the 15th, Students for the Exploration and Development of Space will have a general meeting in Prescott 215 at 7 p.m. Discussions of projects will be held and work will begin on this years Weather Balloon, Rocketry, and Radio astronomy projects.

- During Annual Enrollment period, all employees MUST choose flexible spending account (FSA) election amounts if they want to put money in them for 2021. Employees will enroll on the Optum Bank website once annual enrollment begins

The Writing Excellence Studio at Tech (WEST) is open for the semester! We provide one-on-one writing consultation for upper-level undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty, regardless of what field or writing you’re working on. We can work with you on things like clarity, cohesion, logical progression, or just making sure you’re doing what the assignment asks you to do in the most effective way possible. Student Success Story: Daniel Sukowski Accepts Practicum Hours Through HEP
Rural Reimagined is excited to announce that Daniel Sukowski will conduct his practicum hours at HEP through developing surveys to collect information about the economic, workforce, and education development in Putnam County. Daniel is pursuing his Exceptional Learning PhD in Education with a concentration in Program Planning and Evaluation. Regarding his practicum hours focused on rural initiatives, Daniel states, “This is exciting! My intentions are to evaluate workforce development and education programs in order to help determine potential next steps for improving the community.” As Daniel hopes to stay in evaluation once he obtains his PhD, this will be a wonderful opportunity for him to gain experience in the field. Wings Up, Daniel!

Meet our Supreme Speaker for the Women’s Leadership Conference hosted by the College of Business on September 24, during dead hour (11-11:50). The conference is completely virtual so you can watch from the comfort of your room or in Johnson Hall Auditorium!
Justice Janice Holder was the first female chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court. She retired from the bench in 2014 and currently serves as a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 mediator and is on the Roster of Mediators and Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.

Tuesday, 9/22, Center Stage presents Ending a Legacy of Maya Genocide
Heather Dean first encountered the people of Copal AA when she was reporting on human rights conditions in Mexican refugee camps. She accompanied their return from exile as they collectively built a new village. Dean will highlight the work of the women’s group in Copal AA and the impact of education in women’s lives, within the wider context of the current fight for indigenous rights and ongoing ecological and political issues in Guatemala. This is a Center Stage event hosted by the Women’s Center and will take place in Derryberry Auditorium at 7 pm. Socially distant seating with masks required, but open to everyone.

TTU Water Professionals and Engineers Without Borders (EWB) will be having their second joint meeting of the semester on Thursday, Sept. 17, in Prescott Hall room 215 and also through Zoom from 11:00 – 11:45 am.
