Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Darsh Dinger and Cameron Shepherd, Physics
The Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar this week features talks from Physics Majors Darsh Dinger and Cameron Shepherd. Darsh will describe his continuing work on a camera-based (very) low energy neutron detector in his talk Development of an sCMOS Position-Sensitive UCN Detector. Cameron’s talk, Exploring Nitrogen-Vacancy Magnetometry, will discuss his work constructing a quantum mechanical system sensitive to magnetic fields out of some diamond and a laser. The seminar will be this Friday, April 16th at 4pm. It is geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! Tennessee Tech Volunteer Form
The Tennessee Tech Volunteer Form has been revised and placed in DocuSign for routing. This form is to be used for Tennessee Tech Volunteer Services pursuant to Tennessee Tech Policy 689, Volunteer Services, for individuals who are not employees (volunteers) that they may donate their time and services to Tennessee Tech.
To determine whether such a volunteer arrangement is appropriate, the volunteer and the volunteer’s supervisor must complete the Volunteer Services Agreement and Statement of Understanding Form at least ten (10) business days prior to the performance of any services. The link to the Tennessee Tech Volunteer form can be found on the Human Resources webpage under HR Forms>Employment>Miscellaneous forms, or by clicking here.
The use of the current volunteer form will be discontinued immediately.

Solidarity with Survivors Event Tonight!
Today, 4/14/21, is Solidarity with Survivors! We hope to see you at 7 P.M. tonight via Zoom for this empowering speak out against power-based violence. To get the Zoom information, e-mail awaken@tntech.edu.
Those impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking can share their stories live at the event. You can also submit them anonymously (https://tntech.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cASgMXeXcn0oY98) and they will be read at the event.

Research and Creative Inquiry Day taking place this week
The virtual poster judging for the 16th annual Research and Creative Inquiry event is currently taking place at Tennessee Tech! This event is designed to promote student research and creative inquiry and provide a venue for presenting that work. There were 222 abstracts submitted representing 330+ current students from 22 schools and departments across campus. This week, participants submitted 204 posters and papers for judging, many of which will be available at this link for viewing by the campus community for the remainder of the Spring semester. Please take some time and check out the exciting research and creative inquiry activities being performed by students at Tennessee Tech!

Pardon Me Daylily: Britnee Holley Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers
Britnee Holley will present her BFA senior thesis exhibition, “Pardon Me Daylily”, in the Front Gallery at the Appalachian Center for Craft. The exhibition will be on view from April 21 through May 4, 2021. The gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10 am – 5pm and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.
“Pardon Me Daylily” is an installation of fiber art that includes woven materials, hand embroidery, and dyed silk. Each piece in the exhibition represents one of the three major stages of life of a daylily: a green bud, full bloom, and the dying flower. The embroidery shows a microscopic visual of the floral life cycle and the installation of woven work is a macroscopic experience of being surrounded by the flower.

Join us virtually for this enriching Lecture/Performance on Thursday, April 15, 2021 11:00 AM Central TimeThis lecture/performance aims to foster awareness of Latin American cultural diversity through an emphasis on the relationship between music, culture, and history in the region. We will explore the indigenous music of countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Cuba, and Colombia. The presentation includes a brief introduction to the region, its history and cultural expressions, performance of selected genres and styles, discussion of selected Latin American indigenous instruments, and interactive music activities with students.

Open Call to Artists and Curators
The Appalachian Center for Craft (ACC) is pleased to receive submission proposals from artists/craftspeople and curators for exhibitions for 2022 and 2023.
The ACC is interested in cultivating and showcasing work that strengthens the role of craft in contemporary culture. ACC Galleries exhibit traditional and contemporary fine craft by emerging, mid-career, and established craft artists. We are seeking work that highlights mastery in craftsmanship, celebrates craft and/or pushes the boundaries of craft. Exhibitions can be individual or group shows.
The selection committee will be looking for bodies of work/installations that are cohesive, well-considered, informative, and which promote craft and contemporary craft practices. Exhibitions are two months in duration and a $200 honorarium per exhibition is offered to help support shipping/delivery of artwork. Artwork is insured while on the premises.
