Cards for Senior Citizens
Interested in writing a letter to a local nursing home resident? Stop by on Wednesday evening, write a letter, and we’ll be sure to deliver it to the NHC local nursing home! They would really appreciate a good note to brighten their day. For convenience, please bring writing/coloring utensils to help us prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus. We’ll be having this event at Johnson Hall 103 on Wednesday, September 30th from 5 to 7:30pm. Hope to see you there!

Students Success Story: Art Education Majors Volunteer
Rural Reimagined is proud to recognize Art Education students Pedro Laboy, Veston Phillippi, Chuck Kail, and Becca Boggs for teaching ten visual arts class sessions every week in a surrounding rural community. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jeremy Blair, they are teaching primarily to Kindergarten and first graders at Baxter Primary School in Baxter, TN. Examples of art lessons include learning simple shapes and colors, making flags, and creating textures with homemade slime. Dr. Blair states, “We identified Baxter Primary School as a great partner due to its rural location, early childhood student body, and reasonable commuting range for my participating TN Tech students.” They will continue teaching at BPS until the end of the semester but hope to continue in the Spring. Wings Up!

AAUP chapter will meet on October 1 at 11 a.m.

Mask Design Contest Hosted by SMACS
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) is hosting a mask design contest from Sept. 28 – Oct. 4. Bags with white cotton masks, fabric markers, and contest directions will be given out on Monday, Sept. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Foster (corner of University Dr and Peachtree). In case of rain we will be giving out the supplies in the RUC by the caf. There are three categories to compete in: Tech themed, Science themed, and General. Submission can be made via Instagram or sent our email at smacsttu@gmail.com. All contest submissions must be received by Sunday, Oct. 4 to be considered. If you are not able to pick up your supplies on Monday please email us to arrange a pick up. The winner in each category will receive a $10 gift card. This event was funded by SOLO and is open to all Tech students.

oSTEM Meeting Sept 29
Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (oSTEM) will have a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Foster 233 at 11 a.m. We will be discussing upcoming events for the semester, as well as generating new ideas for other events the members would like to particpate in. The club is open to all LGBTQI+ students, faculty, and staff, as well as allies. All majors are welcome. There is also an option to attend the meeting virtually via Zoom. Rural Reimagined Club Meets on Tuesday 9/29 at 11 am!
The Rural Reimagined Club will be meeting be virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, September 29th, at 11 am.
Rural Reimagined is Tennessee Tech’s Grand Challenge initiative to transform rural living through science, technology, research, and entrepreneurship. We are open to ALL majors, and we hope that through our club we can help you truly become advocates for rural communities by connecting you with opportunities to serve rural areas.

STEM 4 ALL initiative recipient of the 2020 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award
The Oakley STEM Center is honored to be one of the recipients of the 2020 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award by INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine for their STEM 4 All Initiative. This award recognizes unique and innovative efforts for improving access to science, technology, engineering, and math for underrepresented students. These exceptional programs are dedicated to introducing and encouraging students of all ages and at all levels of education to pursue exciting academic opportunities and careers in these vital disciplines.
STEM 4 ALL is an inclusive program for K-12 students as well as adults with intellectual disabilities. Tennessee Tech faculty, STEM majors, and teacher candidates co-plan and co-teach STEM activities for participants and their families. The overall goal of STEM 4 ALL is to motivate this underserved student population to learn more about and pursue STEM disciplines.

TEA is the state division of the National Education Organization (NEA), which is not just the largest professional educator organization in the U.S. but the largest American professional organization of any kind. The National Science Foundation recently announced the fall deadlines for students to apply to the Graduate Research Fellowship program. National society of Black Engineers General Body Meeting
During dead hour today, the National Society of Black Engineers will have a General Body meeting. This will be held virtually via Microsoft teams.
